Métis Week – November 14 to 20

Métis Week is happening Nov. 14 to 20, 2021.

Each year, people across Canada pay tribute to Louis Riel, who sought to defend Métis rights and identity as the Northwest Territories came progressively under the Canadian sphere of influence, by holding a commemorative ceremony on November 16, the date of his execution.

Rupertsland Institute has announced online workshops, contests, and fun activities geared for K-12 educators. Please encourage everyone to register for upcoming no-cost PD, resources, and free events listed Rupertsland Institute Métis Week, to ensure that Métis Week is celebrated authentically and with purpose.

Relationships Matter

Alberta Education just released a new resource, “Relationships Matter: How Relational-Based Supports Can Make a Difference in Alberta Schools.” Grounded in emerging research and best practices, the resource highlights the role of relational‑based supports in addressing Alberta’s professional practice standards. Specifically, it addresses competency one on fostering effective relationships, and competency four on the expectation that teachers, school leaders and superintendents establish inclusive learning environments. The resource also addresses the role that relational-based supports can play in creating welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environments as outlined in the “Education Act.”

Have a great week!
