Construction Update
Thank you for your patience again this week. The City’s Safe Routes project threw us some surprises. We were not notified that the project was officially starting and then the project went beyond scope and they took out most of the sidewalk on Washington, which caused a variety of safety issues. We know there is a lot of congestion back there and are working to temporarily put some solutions in place.
Students are able to enter onto campus at the corner of Connecticut and Washington that originally Rocketship designated as only their entrance earlier in the week. We do not want students walking in the street to enter campus near the gym parking lot. I am allowing Rocketship to park their vans right now in the gym parking lot. They were parked on Connecticut creating huge visibility issues near the corner of Washington and taking up prime, safe drop off spaces for our students and theirs. We have created a coned off walking path with signage for students through the gym parking lot and opened up the gate that is usually only open when we allow families to park on the block top for events. In addition, someone from District Facilities has started to stand out in the gym parking lot to help with safety.
We have also opened two additional gates at both drop off and pick up times. Those gates are the single gate at Maddux and Goodwin leading to the field and the double gate by the trailer next to the gym and the trash enclosure leading to the lunch shelter.
As far as Bond construction, I now have a weekly meeting on Thursdays to get important updates so we can avoid as many surprises as possible and I can communicate what will be happening to you each week. This coming week you can expect to see the Family Center demolished starting on Wednesday, December 12. The music students will vacate their room while the Family Center is demolished. There is also a portable that Rocketship was using that is on the Connecticut side near Goodwin that will be demolished this week as well.
Attached below, you can see the design of the new Office/Family Center that will be constructed in the front of the school and hopefully be completed by August. Not all of the colors shown are accurate, so don’t worry about those.
