Lenten Study: The Gospel of Mark
In the Early Church, the season leading up to Easter was a solemn time of training and preparation for new, adult Christians. This period of preparation followed a long time of discipleship and the fasting season of Lent only lasted a few days. This training brought them to the baptismal pool on Easter morning, where they were welcomed into the growing Church.
Lent was popularized in the 4th century, when it changed to encompass the whole Church, not just new members and expanded to a 40-day season. Most notable for its emphasis on fasting, Lent's self-denial requirements changed depending on the century, denomination, and personal theology. Ultimately, the church used – and continues to use – Lent as the time to renew their sense of devotion and focus on the journey of Christ to the cross.
This year, we will be journeying through Lent by way of the Gospel of Mark. This unique testament to the life of Christ is an engaging story filled with deep, thought-provoking stories. Mark’s portrayal of Jesus is very human, a welcome companion in the long days of Lent. In fact, critics who study the Bible as literature often point to Mark as the masterpiece of the four canonical Gospels.
We welcome all participants, with any level of Biblical familiarity! Together we will read stories – both strange and familiar – and discuss their importance in our understanding of Christ and what they mean for our personal faith. This study is meant to be both informal and informative. We will work at the pace of the participants and focus our conversation on the pieces that interest us as a group.
Please consider joining us! We will meet from 6:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday evenings throughout Lent.
Contact Liz with any questions.

Don't forget to order your Easter lilies or tulips! The flowers are $8.25 per plant and will be used to beautify the sanctuary on Easter morning, April 5th, and then your own home or garden.
Order forms can be found in your Sunday bulletin, in the church office, and the choir room.
This Sunday, March 22nd is the final due date for all Easter flower orders! Payment and order forms can be dropped off in the Church Office or placed in the offering plate.
Easter Egg Hunt
We will be holding an Easter Egg Hunt for the children, immediately following worship on Easter Sunday!
Children are encouraged to bring their own Easter baskets or they can decorate one during Children in Worship (following the Children's Message)
We will gather on the church lawn and enjoy a time of fellowship, laughter, and Easter candy! In the even of inclement weather, the hunt will be moved indoors.

March Statements
Heifer International Project
The family who receives this sheep will reap the benefits of agricultural education, wool, and community building. Heifer's unique system of Sustainable Development makes this a worthwhile investment. After a project (like our sheep) is established, the family passes on their gift (lambs, training) to other families in need, allowing them to help others as they have been helped. This expansion is guaranteed to spread over nine generations. This will ensure that our children's gift will help build up a whole community of people!
Keep an eye out on their progress - there will be a sheep chart posted around the church. If you would like to contribute, you can put a donation in the sheep box or drop something off in the church office.
Flea Market
You can find something for everyone: clothing, linens, kitchen items, toys, books, and more!
Call the church office (610-933-8816) for more information.
Please use the rear entrance, off of Jackson Street.

Come Learn With Us!
Children’s Sunday School
We have classes for all grade levels from Pre-kindergarten through 6th grade! We meet in the second floor classrooms where we watch videos, read the bible, and learn about our growing faith!
During worship, we offer nursery care for the youngest children. The 4-year-olds through 1st grade children are invited to join Liz for a Time for Children during worship and then head back upstairs for Children’s Hour.
Jr. and Sr. High
The older students, 7th-12th grade are invited to meet with Pastor Doug in the Church Office common area. He is teaching a confirmation class but always welcomes guests to the table! Students will talk about the development of Christianity, what it means to be a Presbyterian, and learn about their own, personal faith
Adult Classes
Topics in Life Today (TILT) meets in the Parlor. They are interested in how faith interacts with the world around us and love thought provoking discussion! This class is tailored to the interests of the participants and covers a wide range, with a primary focus on current issues.
The Adult Bible Study meets in the Library. This is a book and Bible focused class that loves to engage with the text and explore it in conversation with one another! If you enjoy reading new material and looking at Scripture in a new way, this is the class for you!
All of our classes begin at 9:00 AM and finish around 10:00 AM. After classes end, there is time for socializing over coffee and light snacks before heading to worship at 10:30.
We hope to see you in one of these classes, whether it is returning to your usual spot or trying something new! Liz is always open to suggestions and ideas about new classes or Bible Studies – in fact, she wants those ideas – and we encourage you to pass them on to her when inspiration strikes! Please contact Liz with any questions you may have about our classes. You can email her or call the church office at 610-933-8816.
