What's Going On In The World Of Taylor Middle School

TMS Band
There is a Band Concert scheduled for Thursday, December 5th at Pannell Auditorium at 6:00 pm. This will be a combined band event consisting of all bands grades 6 through 12.

Science Fair 2022
The LMS Science Fair was a great success. Prizes were awarded to 78 projects. There were a total of 114 projects on display. It was a wonderful turnout as students began to learn the scientific method in alignment with our NM STEM Ready! Science Standards.

Career Classes
Students in Mrs. Castellanos' and Mr. Rickman's classes have been enjoying guest speakers each week. The Career Chats are guests from our community speaking about their personal career path, education or training, and current occupations.

Media Club
Mr. Cabello and the Media Club have been doing a tremendous job at setting up and streaming our "Career Chat" presentations. We are building a digital library for future use.

Ms. Lopez - Health
Students in Ms. Lopez have been working in groups to develop a children's book teaching about the dangers of addiction. The finished books will be taken to the first graders at Lea Elementary to be used as a teaching tool.
While a lot of factors affect drug use trends among youth, there is no doubt that young people use drugs far less when they accurately perceive drugs as being harmful. We know that activities such as tobacco, drug and alcohol use at a young age increase the risk of addiction significantly. All of this can be prevented if young people receive the support, education, help, love, and assistance they need to live healthy, happy, informed lives.
Mrs. Astudillo - Math
Mr. Jackson - Leadership
Mr. Jackson asked his students to watch a "How To Draw" video and then sketch Olaf. The lesson highlighted the differences in all students' drawing skills and how it relates to the uniqueness of each individual. The class focuses on creating leaders in our school and community.

TMS Student Council
TMS Student Council Officers travelled to Dexter for the Southeast District Conference. The students were able to attend student and teacher led workshops on leadership and team building.

Taylor's Student Council planned a fun week of dressing up in honor of Red Ribbon Week. The Red Ribbon Campaign is the largest drug-abuse prevention campaign in the United States. The 2022 Red Ribbon Campaign Theme was "Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free."

Basketball
Boys and Girls in the 8th grade have been signing up to play basketball. Tryouts will begin on Monday, October 31st at Sixth Grade Academy. Their first game will be November 14th at Portales.
7th Grade Boys will have tryouts at Taylor Middle School gym on Monday, October 31st.
7th Grade Girls will have tryouts in January. Stay tuned for more information.
