Growing Saints

"This is what we are about: we plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise."

Advent Blessings!

Advent is more than just a countdown to Christmas. Advent calls us to look inward and prepare ourselves for the coming of Jesus Christ, both at his Nativity and in the world to come. Advent is a time of waiting. Waiting is not something new for the faithful. Throughout the Old Testament, we can see a pattern of waiting. God asked the Israelites, His chosen people to wait, wait for opportunities to be restored, and to learn how to love as God loves. We are asked to do the same waiting.

Throughout the school year, students meet in the final minutes of each day to review the day and pray together. During Advent, this prayer is focused on The Jesse Tree. In the Jesse Tree, we trace the ancestors of Jesus. Each day focuses on a different person or event through which God teaches the Israelites (and us!) about the nature of God and to be prepared to receive their Savior. Students lead with a Bible verse and a reflection to guide us to think more deeply about the lessons God has for us. One student has the privilege of hanging an ornament representing the day's reflection on the tree.

We hope and pray that each of us can take time this season to slow down and reflect on God and how he calls us to himself.

St. Therese, Sts. Cyril and Methodius, pray for us!

Virtue of the Week December 5-11: Humility

Definition: Awareness that all our gifts come from God and appreciation for the gifts of others

Prayer: Dear Jesus, You said, “Learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart” (Matthew 11:29). You are God, yet You became little out of love for me. I desire to become little for the love of You. Help me to be honest about my strengths and weaknesses.

Listen to the Virtue Minute to learn more about St. Bernadette and the virtue of humility.
