Core Class Information
Ms. Allen - 7th Grade Math
We are going to begin working on Topic 1. Integers and Rational Numbers. Everything from integers and their opposites, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing rational numbers, and solving problems with rational numbers.
Mr. Ruiz - ELA
Hello everyone! Throughout our first few days back to school, we have been covering the parts of speech, starting with nouns and adjectives. The next few days will see us continue to cover the parts of speech and eventually begin looking at the elements of literature.
With a few assignments coming in now, I will also be updating the gradebook to reflect everyone's hard work so far.
Mr. Seymour - Social Studies
Mrs. Sullinger - Science
I have so enjoyed getting to know each student that has walked through my door! We started off learning how to take active notes using a strategy I use called Cornell Notes. I love this method because once it becomes natural to them, students can use this for years to come!
We then did whole class notes to practice the format over our first topic: Motion. Students learned how to tell if an object is in motion and what relative motion means. We will explore more online interactives that we will be using all year long and move into our second topic: Force.
Students should have brought home a Safety Contract for you to sign this week. This is super important for students to use sharp instruments in the classroom when we start building our projects.
Students can start preparing for a test over Motion and Force that will take place the week of September 13th. I will communicate through Google Classroom on exact date.
Reminder: When students submit missing work, they must email me so I can update the gradebook. If a student does not communicate, I will not know to update the gradebook. I have also encouraged students to add their parent/guardian to ensure we are all on the same page. Students have until September 17th to submit missing work for the first half of the quarter. This is a hard deadline!

Mr. Cerutti - Pre-Algebra
Pre-Algebra classes have been reviewing old skills that they should know prior to the Pre-Algebra program last week and this week. We have spent a good amount of time on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing POSITIVE fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals.
Students also did the STAR Test, a screener to help us figure out where to meet them academically this year and how best to help "fill the gaps" during out FPC time.
The first two chapters in the Pre-Algebra book are linked as one unit. In Chapter 1, students will learn about negative numbers, will learn to add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive AND NEGATIVE integers, and will learn about absolute value. In Chapter 2, we will use those same skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide both positive AND NEGATIVE rational numbers (basically using fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals along with the integers from chapter 1).
From Your Elective Teachers
Ms. Brazier - Band
Mrs. Delaney - PLTW: Computer Science for Innovators and Makers (CSIM)
We are diving deep into the world of algorithms. We'll be writing them, revising them, diagraming them, following them, and eventually programming MicroBits using the algorithms we write. Everything we do has ordered detailed steps, and computers need the same instructions to perform a task. That will be our focus for the next couple of weeks.
Mr. Elliott - Art
My name is Troy Elliott, and I am the art teacher at Barry. I am looking forward to seeing our students' creativity and exploration this school year. I have the following items on my 7th grade supplies list that I am able to collect anytime:
(1) Package of #2 pencils
(1) Package of fine point black sharpies
Mrs. Harris - Vocal Music & Honor Choir
Mrs. Lackey - World Language
Coach Milne & Coach Baker - PE
We did some Run 4 the Hills and Flag-tag last week and are beginning our first round of Fitness Testing this week in order to get a baseline score for each student. We will spend the next two weeks participating in the fitness testing activities.
Mrs. Morelock - PLTW: Design and Modeling
The 7th graders started the year creating Ankle Foot Orthosis. They worked in groups and came up with some very creative ideas! Over the next two weeks students will be working on different 2D and 3D drawings as well as measurement.
