School Board Notes
December 2016
The Meetings in Review
The December meeting began with the annual School Board Reorganization meeting. The Board elected Chris Boardman as president and Michael Ryan as vice president, both for a term of one year.
Troy Sosnovik, Director of Technology, Child Accounting, and Safety; addressed the Board by updating them on the recommendation for securing School Resource Officer services and other security services for the district. The Board approved the administration's recommendation to contract with U.S. Security Care of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania for a period to begin February 1, 2017 through June 30, 2019 with the structure and rates as presented and pending review by the School District solicitor. Members of the Board commented on their gratitude for the support Lower Providence Township has provided for the School Resource Officer program since its inception. Dr. Zerbe and his administration have expressed a desire to continue and build upon the close relationship that the district has with local law enforcement, reiterating that the communication and cooperation that exists today is a critical part to the safety of our students and the strong sense of community that is present in Methacton.
The Director of Pupil Services, Dr. Susan Angstadt, provided the board with a review of the programming and space requirements for Skyview Upper Elementary School, Arcola Intermediate School, and Methacton High School. This was an update to a similar presentation on programming and space at the five elementary schools. Both presentations can be found on the district's website. This information was provided to the district's vendor, Milone and MacBroom for their work in preparing redistricting scenarios. A presentation of potential redistricting scenarios is scheduled for January 10 at Arcola Intermediate School, beginning at 7 p.m. Milone and MacBroom will present options for the Board’s consideration in a process that is currently scheduled for final recommendations during a February 6 special meeting of the Board. These and other scheduled meetings of the Board and its committees were approved as part of the 2017 School Board meeting schedule.
All items listed on the December 5 agenda were approved.
