Safety Reminders
The beginning and end of the school day are very busy traffic times as students are traveling by foot, bike, skateboard, car and bus. Our top priority during these times is the safety of our students. Please talk with your child about the safety expectations if they are walking, riding their bikes or skateboards to school. Students should only be crossing in areas with designated crosswalks. Students should get off and walk anything with wheels once they arrive at the bike rack or the sidewalks at the front of the school building. All students should be alert for vehicles entering and exiting the driveways and streets near school.

Counselor Corner with Mrs. Gelhar
In fifth grade we have been reflecting on what our roles are as individuals and how it relates to the “big picture” of being part of a team/class. We discussed how there are usually multiple perspectives to consider in every situation. Sometimes we find ourselves in a conflict with another person and struggling to resolve that situation. Students have been introduced to a strategy we use at the intermediate schools to help students resolve conflicts with their peers. SORT is a way to help teach students to manage minor conflicts they have with classmates and friends. Each fifth grader has access to a copy of the SORT poster (see graphic) in their Guidance Google Classroom. SORT helps students to start calm, openly explain what happened and how they feel about it, retell what they heard the other person say, and then seek out a solution that is win-win. Please ask your child about it and how it works!
Music Notes
Mark Your Calendar! The Woodland Intermediate School 5th and 6th grade Music, Band, and Choir will perform in their winter concert on December 14th. We are excited to share with you what we are learning in our classes. More information will be coming, including the times of the concerts.
