Principal's Update
August 19, 2020
Dear Families,
I hope that you and your children all had a smooth and successful start to the year. If not, find comfort in knowing that this structure of school is new to us all. The learning curve is quite varied, but we are all taking steps in the right direction.
I have managed to visit every classroom at least once these first few days of school. Seeing your children's smiling (sometimes sleepy) faces on the screen has been and absolute joy. They are doing their best to be safe, responsible, respectful, and kind- all the things we ask of our students.
Our teachers have made the priority of this first week to be all about building community and connection. You might have noticed this emphasis when you heard conversations around getting to know the history of a child's' name, or a video assignment asking a students to share their favorite work space. In the younger grades, it might have been introducing a favorite stuffie, or practicing a special greeting. Our school-wide mission is to have every child feel as though he or she belongs to a community that extends beyond the walls of home. We hope parents know this is true for them, too.
Parents, we know this is hard, exhausting work. Teachers, staff, and myself are all here to help- we're just a Schoology message/email away. I also encourage every Palo Verde family to join PTA and get to know the families in your child's cohort.
The normal sounds of children- the laughing, the cheering, and stomping of feet- aren't happening on campus right now. No bells signal for recess and lunch, no PE classes are happening on the field. A number of teachers are instructing from their classrooms, and we all agree: WE MISS YOUR CHILDREN!
This is our current reality, but it's not forever. When the time is right and safe, we look forward to welcoming you all back in person. Until then, thank you for all you are doing, and see you on Zoom.
Love,
Annora

Join School Site Council
School Site Council is a group of teachers, parents, administrators, and interested community members who work to develop and monitor the school’s improvement plan. It is a legally required decision-making boy for any school receiving federal funds.
We have one open position for a parent representative. Meetings occur once a month, for about 1.5 hours. Please email me at alee@pausd.org if you are interested in being a part of this group!
PTA and PiE
PTA's mission is to support the student experience by cultivating a strong community, we well as providing classrooms with the materials kids need. The supplies sent home last Friday are just one example of how this Parent-Teacher organization puts every dollar raised to work. This year, they are asking for a $50 per/student contribution to assist with the supplies and materials. The link to pay for these essential supplies is here via our “One Check Form”
Our other partner, PiE, has a common goal in supporting students. However, PiE prioritizes dollars spent towards people. The classroom aide and counseling support services we have are all made possible due to the efforts of PiE.
Please see the video below, which explains how PiE dollars directly translate into richer teaching and learning for kids.
Need Tech Help?
This weekend is the time to practice logging with your child. I would also review the Zoom guidelines attached at the bottom for safe and friendly online interactions. I've included some helpful links below for your reference. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher (after you've reviewed the links).
