What a fun Homecoming Week!
We saw students dressed in some of the most unique costumes! They really found creative ways to follow the varying themes! Key Club also collected quite a load of personal care items in preparation for their annual Marian Cares Event. Thanks to all who contributed.
Monday's Pep Assembly was a blast! Mr. Stamatakos did his very best to eat that BIG BURGER in the allotted time, but ultimately the time ran out! Yes, Mr. Stamatakos... the fries were included!
It was wonderful to see the Homecoming Court announced right before the students' eyes, all of our fall sports being recognized, and a fast-paced basketball challenge while students tried to accumulate their class spirit points.
Monday came to a close on a mosquito-filled football field as the seniors outplayed the juniors.... but certainly, fun was had by all!
Friday's all-school mass was a wonderful way to round out Marian's Homecoming, reminding us that God is our home. Our Distinguished Alumnus, Mr. Mike Domek, also provided us with a message of focus, grit, and determination, and it was great to see such a turnout of alumni that looked forward to their special reunion.
The night ended with the crowning of Cade Bokowy and Lindsey Litterer as Homecoming King & Queen and recognition of the 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees. Capping off the Homecoming festivities will be the Dance Saturday night... please pray that all of our students have a safe and enjoyable night of celebration.
I want to thank those teachers who opened up their classrooms to me again this week. It was great to see students engaged in a Constitutional Convention, a discussion connecting concepts within the Catechist with the challenges we face every day and more!
Each month, the Deanery Principal's get together to stay updated with Diocesan and Deanery matters and also to discuss how to continue to bridge the gap between the elementary schools and Marian. We already do such a wonderful job of visiting the schools with activities such as the band/choral tour, exposing students to engineering concepts, and reading Comp/Speech student-authored stories. Certainly there are many other ways we can connect our students to the younger members of our Deanery, so if you have some ideas, feel free to share them so we can help make those ideas a reality.
Looking ahead...
Tuesday is our second late start of the year. The agenda can be found here. Fortunately, the plans include starting with a short all-staff meeting in the cafeteria so Miss Gallagher can explain the preparations and expectations for the upcoming all-day inservice on October 9. What this means is that you will have the majority of this month's Late Start to work in your PLCs on your curriculum alignment, including collaborating to develop/hone your UBDs and lay out your Year-Long Plans. We know this is an arduous process, but please know that we are looking to ensure that we continue to provide the best, most sustainable education to our students. Mrs. Loy and Ms. Novy will be available to work with PLCs that need additional assistance throughout this process.
You will also see our Deanery middle school students coming to visit our school to participate in an assembly with Deacon Art Miller in Marian's auditorium. Please remind your students that if they encounter any of the middle school students, to remember that they are representing our school, and providing these youngsters with a positive experience and environment will provide yet another opportunity to strengthen these students' resolve to make Marian their home for their high school years.
On Wednesday, we will be utilizing our all school mass schedule to allow our Marian students to listen to Deacon Art. Students will still be coming to the assembly with their homeroom classes. Mrs. Loy will be sending out a slightly revised bleacher seating chart for this assembly, as we will not be providing seating on the main floor during this assembly.
To follow up and engage our Deanery-wide parents in this same conversations, we will be having Deacon Art present Wednesday evening as well. This will be our first in our Conversations that Matter Parent engagement series, meant to engage in meaningful and timely conversations with our parents. We are, after all, one team all working to support our students to have a safe and empowered to take responsibility for their spiritual, personal, and academic life.
We have another all school mass on Thursday for the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi where we will have a special individual conducting the homily! We are really looking forward to that!
Have an amazing week!
