May’s Key of Excellence: Balance
Live your best life! Be mindful of self and others while focusing on what’s meaningful and important in your life. Inner happiness and fulfillment come when your mind, body, and emotions are nurtured by the choices you make.
This week's mindset quote:“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.” – Thomas Merton

Hi Parents,
I hope this find you and your family well. As we begin the last full week of the 19-20 school year, students are encouraged to reach out to teachers regarding work completion or any questions they may have. The CUSD Learning Department will be providing enrichment opportunities starting the first week of June.
I will be providing an informational video for students and parents later this week.
All my best,
Karin
Best Wishes and Happy Retirement to Ms. Tracy Walmsley: Ms. Walmsley joined CUSD in 2005 and became part of the CMS Family in 2007 when she was hired as a special education teacher. In 2012, Ms. Walmsley began teaching 6th grade humanities teacher and visual arts. After 25 years of caring and committed service to so many students, parents, and staff, CUSD is saying goodbye to this remarkable teacher. Ms. Walmsley's contributions have made an everlasting impact on our school community and her students. We wish Ms. Walmsley all the best in her retirement and new adventure in Walla Walla, Washington.

8th Grade Promotion
Thank you to our 8th grade promotion committee, headed by Mr. Roelof Roos, who have spent hours working on a plan to make this a special time for our promoting students. Very special thanks to promotion committee member, Kimberly Schulrud, and Doug Grossmann for organizing and creating the 8th grade video which will be available to students on June 9th.
The committee would appreciate the support of all 8th grade parents so our students can be presented with a memento/gift, an opportunity to capture one final Triton moment before they move on as an Islander, and in tradition, set up funding for the "CHS Class of 2024 ASB fund." The Class of 2024 fund is used for activities and community building experiences such as homecoming, spirit events, prom, graduation festivities, and much more.. CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY (CHKS)
California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) has developed a survey to obtain information from students about learning during the pandemic. The questions have been adapted from the school climate survey in the CHKS core module to learn about students' mental health, stress, and coping skills during distance learning.
Student participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information provided will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, improve student achievement, and reduce health risks that stand as barriers to learning.
This is an anonymous survey. It is designed so that no one can be identified from the data. Students do not have to respond to any questions that they feel could be used to identify them. Instruct them to simply skip any such questions.
All questions apply to this school only, and the results are for the use of CUSD. CDE and WestEd will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the district.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING THE SURVEY
Access the survey using the following URL:https://surveys.wested.org/chks/RG629NJ

The Weekly Link: Dear Parents,
Week 6! Done! Congratulations, and once again, we thank you for partnering with us to advance your child's education during distance learning.
This week the district announced we are ending school May 29th. While this is a welcome change for many of us, it is also another change.
We have asked children to make multiple shifts this year, and they have rallied and done a remarkable job, as have parents. This new shift brings positives and negatives to many of our students. Excitement to end the school year early is tempered by disappointment of cancelled summer plans and uncertainty about the coming school year.
Letting go of expectations, accepting new models, adjusting to change, learning to be flexible, are all life skills we want our children to have. Never before have we had such a real world opportunity to teach our children these important life skills. They are watching us, and they are learning from us how to handle these waves of change.
This week’s weekly Link is to Change to Chill. The primary purpose of this site is to help teens become more aware of the things that stress them out, and give them tools and resources to better many stress, so they can live a happier, more resilient life. The site is great for anyone working with a preteen/teen and is full of resources. We hope you find it helpful as you and your family continue to navigate our changing world.

Until next time, we wish you well.

CUSD GRAB-AND-GO MEAL SERVICE
Grab-and-Go Meal Service at Village Elementary and Silver Strand
When: Every Monday
Location: Multi-Purpose Rooms at VES (H Street) and Silver Strand Elementary
Distribution Time: 11:00AM - 1:00PM (while supplies last)
Families with children 18 and under will be able to pick up free breakfast and lunch meals via curb-side pick-up. Students who are receiving meals are encouraged to be physically present at the time of pick-up. Additionally, adults may pick up meals for students not present by printing and submitting this form at the time of pick-up. All meals will be distributed curb-side to decrease the risk of exposure. Only those in cars will be served meals during this pick-up time, no walk ups or bicycles allowed in order to maintain social distancing. If you are unable to pick-up meals by car or during the scheduled distribution time, please email Charity.Campbell@coronadousd.net on or before Friday, April 10 at noon and we will schedule an alternative window to pick-up a meal.
While the program was designed to serve the neediest families in our community, children are not required to be students of Coronado Unified School District. On April 6, the first day of meal distribution, we served 5 breakfast meals and 5 lunch meals to 630 children, 6300 meals in total. With such an overwhelming response, we will be preparing even more meals to accommodate our school community. This is free for all children, regardless of meal status - please spread the word!
