Legislative Day 2019
Virginia School Counselor Association
Legislative Update: 1:250 in VA and 80% on Direct Services
Legislative Day is January 9, 2019 we would LOVE for you to attend. This year, we are advocating for 1:250 and 80% of our time spent on direct services to students. The more school counselors we have in attendance, the more VA legislators will get the message that appropriately staffed school counseling programs will promote school safety and mental health.
Last year we made great strides with a bill in the House of Delegates requesting 1:250 ratios for high school counselors. Through that effort, we have learned that we still have a lot of work to do in educating our legislators about the school counselor’s role in promoting K-12 student mental health and safety.
We have some talking points and a video to help you prepare for the day and for appointments with your legislators. We will email members who RSVP for the event, and we will make appointments to meet with your legislators for you. You will meet with other constituents from your districts. We hope you will join us for this important day of advocacy.
