How to Bud a Plant
Cut a slip in the rootstock in a T-shape. Twist the knife at the end to open up the flaps.
Make the first cut 1/2 inch below the bud an then move the knife upward 1/4 inch above the bud. Gently pinch the petiole and drag the knife straight down. Keep the bud clean.
Insert the bud into the flaps of the rootstock.
Wrap budding rubber around the stem to keep the flaps together. Secure rubber with electrician tape or by tucking the ends. Do not cover the bud.
Give the plant water at a regular rate. After 3 weeks remove tape and rubber.
