The Bobcat Beat
Fern Hill Elementary School, January 15, 2020
Cold and Flu Season is upon us.
When to keep kids home:
· Children should stay home anytime they have a fever (temp. 100 degrees or higher) and remain home until they have been fever-free for 24 hrs. without medication.
· Any child with vomiting or diarrhea should stay at home for 24 hrs. after the last episode to be sure they are symptom-free.
· In case of contagious illness; flu, strep throat, lice, please contact the school nurse (484 266-1606) so she can watch for other cases of illness and advise you about when your child can return to school.
· Respiratory illnesses must be determined on a case by case basis. If your child has a history of asthma, your health care provider should advise you about treatment. Even children no history of asthma have difficulty focusing and learning when they have a persistent, hacking cough.
Please help us limit the spread of germs by keeping sick children home, and by reinforcing proper hand washing and cough etiquette. It’s not too late to get your child a flu shot, if you haven’t already done so.

Interested in coaching Girls On The Run or STRIDE?
Is your child in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade? If so, you might want to consider volunteering your time to coach Girls on the Run (for girls) and STRIDE (for boys)? The YMCA facilitates this clubs, but they need parent volunteers to host them at the various schools.
Girls on the Run uses the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health.
STRIDE is a fun fitness and running program for boys where they will have the chance to share their thoughts and opinions about various life topics in a safe, encouraging environment that helps them develop character.
If you are interested in starting one of these clubs at Fern Hill, please contact Mrs. Melanie Olsen (fhptopresident@gmail.com).
