Dolphin Digest CELEBRATION Edition

November 8, 2021

A Note From Dr. Elliott

Dear Families,

We are excited to share with you our October Rally of the Dolphin Winners! Our focus for our M.A.D. Skills award last month was Empathy. Teachers noticed students who took time to be there to celebrate a friend or help a friend in need. This month's word is Compassion in Action. Students watched a video in our rallies about what compassion looks like and what compassion is about! We also had over ____ students in 95% attendance or higher.

Our P.OD. (Present, On-time, Dedicated) Class Winners Were:

Mrs. Fogle's 5th Grade with 98.1% attendance

Mrs. Adams' 4th Grade with 97.38% attendance

Dolphin Class Act Winners:

Our Dolphin Class Act winners are chosen by our Specialty teachers for Dolphin Best actions by a class. We pick one class between K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. Our winners this month are:

Mrs. Walker's Kindergarten Class

Mrs. Blakey's 3rd Grade Class

Mrs. Fogle's 5th Grade Class

Virtual Book Fair

Parents don't forget we have our Virtual Book Fair still going on this week! The link is below. This is a great opportunity to stock up on some great books for Christmas for a cheaper price and another way to support the library makeover and build a bigger selection of books. You may access the Virtual Book Fair link through the Disney Library/Learning Commons on CANVAS or by using this link:

Dolphin TAILS (Ticket of Awesome Individual Leadership Skills)

This quarter we have implemented our Dolphin TAILS to reinforce individual efforts for Safe, Respectful and Responsible actions. Students who are caught showing these actions will receive a Dolphin TAIL to put into a weekly Raffle. Each Friday, three names from each class will be chosen to shop at the prize cart during lunch. Students are loving this recognition. Ask your child about Dolphin TAILS and see what they have earned one for!

Mission & Vision Statement Meet & Greet Activity coming soon!

As I plan to meet with PTA, we will be planning a meet and greet to get more parent input on the mission and vision of Disney Elementary. I had limited parent participation in the Thought Exchange and perhaps an in-person opportunity will allow us time to get to know one another and our dreams, hopes and aspirations for our Disney children. Your input is important to making this school everything it can be. We will be posting this date soon and I look forward to meeting many of you in person.

Our First Annual Spelling Bee

Hello Disney family!

This year we are having our first annual spelling bee at Disney.

Attached to this letter is the list your student can use to study for the spelling bee by grade level.

Studying for the spelling bee is completely optional. Performance in the spelling bee will not affect any student’s grades at Disney.

The classroom spelling bees will be held during computer class on the week of December 6th through 10th.

The winners of the classroom spelling bees will participate in the schoolwide spelling bee sometime after we return from winter break.

With any luck, we might be able to do this during a schoolwide assembly with parents, but only if COVID-19 restrictions are lifted in time to organize the event.

The champion for Disney Elementary will then move on to the regional competition.

If you have any questions, please email me.

Be well,

Brian Carlstrom
