Hilburn School Counseling
A Message from your School Counselors
From Ms. Daley
Hello Hilburn families! We hope you are well, despite these uncertain times. In case you haven't heard, we wanted to share some news with you, and I'll go first. :-)
About a year ago, my fiance and I bought an RV, with dreams of one day hitting the road to see the country. In January, I shared with admin that we were planning to begin our travels in the fall and I would not be back. We have six children between the two of us; our oldest just got married, so we think we have a short window before grandchildren are in the picture, and we won't want to be far from home. Then the pandemic hit, and I have since struggled with this decision, feeling like I should be here this fall. But one of the things that has resonated with me throughout this crisis, is that you never know what tomorrow might bring, so after many tears, long conversations, and a lot of soul searching, we have decided not to put our dreams on hold, and plan to hit the road in a few months.
To say this has been a difficult decision is a huge understatement. I started my career here at Hilburn nine years ago; I have loved being part of this community and being one of your school counselors. It has been my privilege to be there and support your children as they grow, year to year, and although I am excited for this next chapter in our lives, I am so sad to leave.
So thank you for your support and encouragement over the years. Please take good care, and I hope to see you around.
With love and gratitude,
Ms. Daley
Ms. Griffin's Turn
To our irreplaceable Hawk family:
In January, we found out we are expecting (again)! Most of you know that our son will turn one in less than a month. Our baby girl is due to arrive in early-mid September. In thinking about transitioning to two children who will be only 15 months apart, we needed to make some essential decisions for our family. Our decision is for me to stay home and care for the babies next year. For several reasons, we felt this was the best choice in regards to what the imminent season of balancing two small children will bring. I adore Hilburn and have felt at home since the day I came to interview for the middle grades counseling position. Thank you for making my short, two years at this school unforgettable. There is truly no school family love like the love you find #ontheHil!
I think I speak for Ms. Daley and myself when I say that a family decision (such as the ones we are both experiencing) is the only thing that could persuade us to leave such a wonderful atmosphere. This is not how we anticipated ending our time. We envisioned hugs, and smiles, and in-person farewells. However, like with all things in this season of uncertainty, we are focusing on what we can control and counting our blessings. Hilburn is among the major things we are thankful for. So for now, we are sending virtual hugs, smiles, love and well wishes. We love you and we will miss you!
