Thursday, March 10, 2016 marks the beginning of the Annual Tapestry Festival of the Arts. The artwork will be exhibited at J Alvin Willbanks Instructional Support Center, located at 437 Old Peachtree Road NW in Suwannee. The opening ceremony will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. The artwork will remain on display until Friday, March 18, 2016.

We hope your family will have an opportunity to view the amazing artwork from our school, our cluster and other Gwinnett County Public schools. We are very proud of our Puckett’s Mill students whose artwork will be on display.

What are we doing next week?

  • Reading – We will continue our Nonfiction Biography unit. Using a variety of books, students will make connections as to how the time period influences achievements.
  • Writing – We will analyze and review constructed response and extended response writing completed in class last week to prepare for the Milestones Test.
  • Word Study/Spelling - This week we will continue to study more “r” influenced vowel patterns. All the words this week contain the /r/ sound. The words are spelled using the following patterns: IR, IRE, and IER. There are 2 sets of homophones this week. Your child should know the meaning of the words in order to be able to use them correctly in sentences. The Spelling Test will be on Friday, March 25th.
  • Grammar - We will continue to learn about singular and plural possessive nouns this week.
  • Math – We will begin a unit on measuring length, mass, and volume. Students will have a test over this unit on March 31st.
  • Social Studies - Students will continue learning about our American heroes unit, covering Lyndon B. Johnson, Thurgood Marshall, and Cesar Chavez. Students will learn about the life, times, obstacles, and contributions of Thurgood Marshall and Cesar Chavez. The unit test will be will be Friday, March 25th. You can study these vocabulary words using the LBJ Quizlet, Thurgood Marshall Quizlet, and Cesar Chavez Quizlet.
