The Hurley Media Mash Up!
December Edition
Holiday Greetings to the Hurley Staff and Families
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanza to all my fellow staff and friends! It seems like this school year is going by so fast! I want to thank all of you for your support and patience as I continue to adjust to and manage a flexible schedule. I've been so excited to get into your planning meetings to be able to provide support and resources. When we come back it will be a busy time! I will be continuing to work with your grade levels, teach library/literacy skills to students, prepare an awesome Makerspace area (yes it's coming!) with a Makerspace library, dive into coding and digital citizenship, work with 5th grade AIG students to prepare them for their author visit in March, work with my 4th and 5th grade Book Chasers, create a relevant professional library for teachers and staff, act on the results of your teacher surveys, and more! I wish you all good health and happiness over the holidays!

Great Print ELA and Math Resources at the Hurley Library!
Teachers, did you know that the library has tons of math and ELA resources? These books would be a great resource for your lesson planning.

If you cannot open these links from the newsletter, I have these resources posted in Schoology.
Important Information About Big Universe!
As I was working with some teachers on Big Universe we noticed something very interesting. If you are not using Chrome as your browser the "animated ebooks" option will not be available to you. This is what enables Big U to read aloud to students.
New Native American Titles Available at the Hurley Library
I have acquired 6 new Native American Biographies:
The Life of Crazy Horse
The Life of Black Elk
The Life of Joseph Brant
The Life of Pocahontas
The Life of Sacagawea
The Life of Geronimo
Appropriate for grades 3-5, these books have great information, illustrations, and vocabulary.
The STEM lab is up and running!
Mr. Eliot's Class making airplanes and measuring distance!
Mrs. Harper's class experiencing a taste of Italy at Christmas!
A Great Combination? A holiday program and a holiday book fair!
I could hear them coming up the hallway, a slow rumbling of feet and a lot of chatter. In a slow stampede, the parents came to the book fair after the holiday program! Thanks to them, we sold over $3000 of books and merchandise to benefit our school. Thanks to everyone for their support!

Promoting Our School!
This is a reminder that, as time permits, I will be around taking pictures of things going on in your classrooms and school events to post on our school's Facebook page and Twitter. Thank you for your cooperation!
