Land ordinance of 1785
Pros
The Land Ordinance of 1785 really allowed people to be excited for moving westward. The land was cheap and there was nothing congress could do about it. This ordinance also explained how much land needed to be purchased and the amount of people in that certain area it took to become a state. Land was no less than 1$ a acre. The money made from a designated section was all collected and used towards schools. Slavery in the northwest was outlawed which means no slaves in the newly obtained land west of the App. mountains.
Northwest Ordinance of 1787
The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was pretty much just corrections and helpful ad on's to the Land Ordinance of 1785. This newly acquired land needed more organization and thought than they previously had thought. How school systems should work and how to regulate government. This basically helped out the little flaws that were in the Land Ordinance of 1787. Slavery still abolished in the new land. Townships were 6 miles x 6 miles 36 sections with 640 acres each. All money from section 16 was put towards schools.
