Important Notes
Here are a few important reminders:
- If your child will go home a different way than usual, you will need to write a note. If I do not have a note saying they will go home a different way, I will send them home their normal way.
- Please, please make sure your child has a supply of pencils, paper, and a dry erase marker (black works best).
- Please remember, our day starts at 7:30. Students switch classes at 7:50. Every minute of our day is precious. Thank you.
- We go out to recess everyday unless it is raining, the ground is too wet, or below 32 degrees. Students without coats will not be permitted outside. Please make sure your child has on a warm coat and pants on very cold days. Thank you.
- My homeroom valentine exchange will be Tuesday, February 14. A letter about this was sent home to my homeroom yesterday.
Social Studies Notes
We are currently studying North Carolina's role in United States History, starting with the American Revolution. We will continue with the role our great state played in World War II, women's suffrage, and the Civil Rights movement. We will have an open book/ open note test on this coming up soon. Once will finish this test, we will move onto the people of North Carolina, including indigenous groups and early settlers.
Science Notes
We have started our unit on forms of energy, specifically, light. We will focus on properties of light including reflection, refraction, visible light energy, opaque and transparency, and how light moves. This unit has a lot of vocabulary that goes along with it. Students will have their own book to use and highlight in as a reference. They are free to take it home any night as long as they bring it back for the next day's use in class.
Mrs. Beck will continue to focus on rocks and minerals with those students who she taught at the beginning of school.
School Budget - We Need You!
As you are probably aware, new state mandates have added a huge burden on an already strapped local school districts like ours. In the very new future, there will be a series of important meetings to discuss the impact these new state mandates will have on our school system's operating budget, how the district intends to counteract these impacts, and what our school board and county commissioners can do to help our schools. We urge everyone to come to these meetings to listen or share your thoughts on school funding with our school board and/or county commissioners. For more information, please visit the district web site (www.ncmcs.org), the SFL PTA page on Facebook, or the Parents for Moore page on Facebook. Please come out and let our school board and county commissioners know you support full funding of our schools.
