AIG Update for Teachers
Bradley Creek Elementary School
Academies
In the 2013-2014 school year, I’d like to implement a new enrichment opportunity for students in grades 3-5 called “AIG Academies.” The goal of AIG Academies is to bring our valuable parent experiences and community expertise to our students. Each Academy will have a different content focus, based on the skills of our parent/community instructors. Students will choose Academies to attend based on their interests, strengths, and needs. Some of the seminars we have scheduled so far include french lessons, computer keyboarding, video game design and creation, civics, film, and levers/pulleys/fulcrums for girls.
Academies will meet on Fridays during the intervention/enrichment block. If you have a suggestion or know of someone who might be an engaging Academy instructor, please let me know! More information and the Academy calendar can be found on my web site.
Nomination/Identification timeline
A timeline for student nomination/identification, with meeting dates and deadlines, is posted on my web site. While this information is particularly important for Match team members and 3rd grade teachers, ALL teachers need to examine the timeline closely.
Every school in NHC was given a testing window; ours is January 6th- January 17th. This means that, unless an exceptional situation arises, I will only provide standardized testing ONE time this year. All nominations must be submitted to me by November 12th in order to be considered by the Match Team for testing. I will be communicating this with parents and I will be providing you with short informational "blurbs" to include in your newsletters, as well. Thank you in advance for helping me to alert ALL of our Bradley Creek families about this county-wide change!
Important Dates!
- September 5th @ 6:00 pm - School-wide AIG information session - (this is particularly helpful for 3rd grade parents!)
- September 6th @ 8:00 - School-wide information session - (a 2nd offering for families who could not make the evening session)
- September 13th - Academies begin!
- Tuesday, September 17th at 3:00 - Match Team training (this is 1 of only 3 meetings this year. See the nomination/identification timeline for other dates.)
** If you are not a member of the match team, but would like to attend the training to learn more about the nomination/identification process and criteria, you are welcome to join us!
