Edgar Allen Poe
The Premature Burial
First Connection
Throughout Poe's life he had lost alot of people that were close to him. So the mentioning of death and being afraid of death could link to him losing those family members.
Second Connection
His wife Virgina dies from Tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a contagious bacterial infection. In his story Poe mentions of a man named Mr. Edward Stapelton, who had died from Typhus Fever, which is a bacterial disease. I think that Poe talked about this as a way of him putting his wife into the story without actually having to use her name.
Third Connection
Edgar Allan Poe tried really hard to be a journalist, but turned out to be a failed journalist. He mentions a Julien Bossuet, a poor litterateur, or a journalist of paris. A failed journalist.
Fourth Connection
Edgar Allan poe writings were rejected alot. Maybe he took the sense of them being rejected and turned down as a sense of his career being buried alive. Which led him to talk about being buried alive, because maybe thats how he felt.
Fifth Connection
In "The Premature Burial", the narrator basically says that being buried alive can be hell. When his wife Virgina dies, Poe was in a type of living "hell" and drank himself away.
