Incident in the Church this Morning

Hello, Parents.

I wanted to let you know about an incident that occurred in the church this morning...before the students arrived for mass. I went over to the church at approximately 8:40 am. Upon entering the church, I immediately saw a man in the back of the church who was acting in a strange manner and yelling. I contacted Deacon Jim at his office and he headed right over to the church. In the meantime, I tried to interact with the man and get him to leave the church. This did not seem possible so I contacted the police and left the church to alert the school that the children should not come to the church until things were safe. The gates were locked so that the man could not enter the back lot.

Deacon Jim interacted with the man and got him to exit the church out the side near Delin Street while we waited for the police. Once the man was up the street and the police had control of the situation, we had the children enter the church through the back lot and the side of the church. Everything went fine at mass and the kids were simply told that there was an issue in the church and that we weren't ready to have mass yet. We ended up starting about 9:05 am. As is our policy, once mass had begun, we locked all exterior church doors except the side door nearest the rectory (where the nuns live).

I wanted to make sure that you were aware of the incident and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Blessings,
