Your Principal, Zach Mercier

Back to School Night is set for Wednesday, January 25th, and we want to invite each of you to join us as we begin semester 2 of the 2022-2023 school year. As in years past, Our “Back to School” day will be a minimum day where students will be released at 1:40 p.m., so please make note of this early release. Tuesday, January 24th, will be a regular day with dismissal at 3:40 pm - NOT a flex day!

Food trucks will be available to purchase food.

This Back to School Night will be in a “showcase” format, and all departments and clubs will be in our large and small gyms. This is a great opportunity for students and families to inquire about classes for next school year. INCOMING 9th GRADE FAMILIES ARE ALSO INVITED!

We look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting many new ones on Back to School Night, Wednesday, January 25th – so please make plans to join us. As always, you can find this information and much more on our school website www.lancasterhs.org and by following us on the AVUHSD App. Visit tinyurl.com/lnhsinformation to stay connected.

Yearbook Information

Yearbook is Officially On Sale!

The 2023 Yearbook is officially on sale! Please contact Ms. Mendoza in Accounting to purchase the book for $65. If you want a personalized yearbook, please order through your account at Jostens online. The price will rise to $70 at the end of the semester.

Last year's book sold out before the yearbook arrived, so don't miss out on your piece of Lancaster history. The only way to guarantee a copy is buying during the presale as after that, it's first come first serve until the yearbooks run out.

We have two weeks left for you to purchase senior recognition ads for your graduating seniors. Don't miss out on honoring your child today! Please use the attached flyer and email me at jgriffey@avhsd.org if you have any questions!

VIRTUAL *LIVE* Tutoring (Virtual Tutoring with a Live Person)

Did you know that your student has LIVE 24 HOUR FREE tutoring available in your student's PowerSchool? Our district has partnered with Princeton Review to provide every student with this amazing service. Your student can be connected with a tutor in any subject any time of the day, for FREE. These are not videos, they are live, vetted, tutors. Think of Uber, but for tutoring! The tutors will even edit papers for your student with less than a 24 hour turn-a-round period.

The easiest way to access this free, live, virtual tutoring, is to have your student log into google with their school account, log into Power School, look on the left side of the screen and find the live tutor button, and follow the easy to follow directions from there. If you need assistance, CLICK HERE or the button below for a tutorial.

In-Person 0-Period Live Tutoring on Campus

Live, in-person, tutoring began on our campus has started. We have daily tutoring from 7:45am - 8:40am in our library.

Students must check in at the door for tutoring. Students must be working quietly or receiving tutoring to be in the library before school.

We will host all tutoring in the library during these hours with adult tutors to assist your students. Use this time for quiet work time or to get specific help from our tutors.

TUTOR TIP: Have your work out and ready. Have specific questions for tutors. Get help when you are stuck!

How does my child get lunch?

Lunch is free for all and can be found at the multiple lunch sites on campus.

Food Services https://avfood.org/ is pleased to announce that beginning this school year, your student will receive meals at no charge as part of their school day thanks to the USDA's Covid relief plan. This is an automatic benefit for all enrolled students to students throughout California. It is important that our students are nourished in order for them to learn and not have the pressure associate with program eligibility.

This change means students are not required to complete a meal application or provide any specific documentation, however, we are still required to gather family income and demographic information to ensure that your student benefits from additional state and federal programs that are available.

The California Department of Education uses this confidential information to identify qualifications for additional funding that provides for many programs and opportunities for our students. Based on the information provided, eligible students may receive fee waivers for the PSAT, SAT, free college applications, or much more. The AVUHSD is eligible for additional supplemental and targeted funding for our student programs and services based on a variety of factors, including this data.

Lancaster parents, we need your help! Please, regardless of qualifications, or social-economic standing, please help us provide the best opportunities that we can for our students by taking the few minutes it takes to fill out this form. If you need any assistance filling out this form, email food@avhsd.org.

This confidential form* can be found at: https://family.titank12.com/income-form/new?identifier=3JD2ZE

*Please be careful of the most common errors: Do not put a space after any responses and make sure the name on the first page matches the name on the last.
