2021-2022 District Calendar SC Approved March 30, 2021

Hello BHS Community,

It has been great to see students the past week or so in band camp and at pre-season for athletics. The beginning of the school year is approaching quickly and we are excited to see our faculty, staff and students.

As mentioned in the last bulletin, we will focus on community building and easing into the school year during the first two days of school. The first two days of school will start with an advisory. Most advisory assignments are complete and in the student schedule. All of the rising 9th graders and new student advisory assignments will be in Aspen by Friday, August 27.

The schedules for the first two days of school can be found here and are also posted below. A few notes:

  • Do NOT worry if you do not understand the schedule. We are starting in advisory and the schedule will be reviewed during advisory on September 1.

  • It will be helpful for you to take a screenshot of your schedule and make it your homescreen on your phone. Make sure you take the screenshot after all schedule changes and after Friday, August 27 to ensure that your advisory is part of the schedule. You will be encouraged to take a screenshot of your schedule when you receive your iPad as well. You can also print out your schedule if you do not have access to a phone.

  • Note that some teachers listed in the schedule are retired and no longer at BHS. We will update impacted schedules with the new teachers (new hires) soon.

  • iPads are being delivered to students during advisory on September 1. Parents/caregivers, please sign the iPad agreement prior to September 1.

  • We know that many students are concerned about getting lost at BHS when trying to find classes. There will be plenty of adults and students around so ask for directions. We are here to help.

Our school hours are M, T, Th, Fri 7:45-2:24 and Wed 7:45-12:55. Note that the district calendar still needs to be amended to reflect the pre-covid schedule. Students should become accustomed to checking their emails. All beginning of the year information will continue to be sent to both parents/caregivers and students. Our School Committee will be voting on a mask policy tonight, August 24. We will communicate any mandates or changes in our newsletter next week.

ipad Agreement Form

iPads will be distributed during the first days of school during Advisory period. Parents/guardians are required to sign the technology agreement before their student(s) receive an iPad.

Please fill out the iPad agreement form here

Safety/Drop Off/Parking

We will continue to keep all external doors locked this year. Cars may not be idle or parked directly in front of the main entrance as it needs to be cleared for emergency vehicles and for busses. Please know that you are subject to ticketing by the Bedford Police Department if you park in the restricted lane.

Students with vehicles should park in designated student parking spots and need to have a valid BHS parking sticker by October 1. The Parking Sticker application may be found here or on the BHS website under News items.

If you are dropping off your student, please do so at the front of the building in the student lot or at the side near the public library. Do not enter the bus loop at the front of the school as it causes safety issues for students unloading.

Last year, we had a few accidents where, thankfully, no one was injured. While I know the mornings can be busy and rushed, be sure to drive slowly in our parking lots and make sure students are looking for moving vehicles before crossing.

BHSPA Welcome Back Faculty Luncheon

The BHSPA and parent community would like to welcome back BHS faculty and staff to a brand new school year with a luncheon. We are requesting contributions from parents/guardians to supplement pizza, which will be purchased by the BHSPA.

The event will be held on Tuesday, August 31st. Contributions can be dropped off by 10:30am at the main door vestibule the day of the luncheon. Please contribute if you are able by using this Sign Up Genius LINK. Thank you!

Schedule Changes

The BHS Counseling Department is inviting students for virtual appointments to make schedule changes beginning the week of August 23. To request a schedule change, please complete the Schedule Change Request. Depending upon the complexity of the request, counselors will either make changes on their own or send the student an email to schedule an appointment via Zoom. Once you have a scheduled appointment, your counselor will send you a Zoom meeting link. All schedule changes will be handled through the counseling department.
The first two days of school will be centered around community building and easing into the year. Our 9th graders and new students will have tours on the first day of school. However, if you would like an advance tour prior to the start of school, we have scheduled optional tours

August 26 - 12:00-2:00

August 30 and 31 - 10:00-12:00

To sign up for an optional tour please click here.

Bus Transportation

Importantly, many health and safety measures will remain in place on school buses. As has been and is currently the case with all types of public transportation, masks will continue to be required on school buses for students and drivers. This is by federal public health order, and is specified in DESE’s guidance, released July 30, 2021. The district also will continue the practice of maximum ventilation and fresh air, and will continue to operate buses with windows partially open.

Boston METCO Families can register through the METCO office. Bus riding at BHS will return to open seating due to vaccination access for this age group.

BHS families can find bus routes and stops posted online and published in the Bedford Citizen, approximately one week before school starts.

Bus locations at the end of school: The busses line up from the front of the school back to the student drop off by student parking and the Library. The pick up order begins with the Base busses then busses 1-16 and 33). The METCO bus picks up where it drops off in the morning by student parking and the Library.

Late busses run on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and pick up at the front of the school by the Cafeteria doors. Late busses depart at 4:05pm.

This year all school meals are free for all students. Parents do not need to put money on their students lunch account. For instructions on ordering lunch please click here

Menus can be seen here.

For additional information please contact the Food Services office at 781-275-9129.

Outdoor Seating

Last year, students enjoyed the outdoor lunches even though we did not have any formal seating. Thanks to the BHSPA and donors, we were able to purchase weather proof tables to preserve outdoor seating options. Thank you to all who donated.

Save the Date

Back to School Night will be Thursday, September 30

6:30-8:30pm at Bedford High School

This is an opportunity for adults to hear about the classes from the teachers and also to learn how taxing it can be to travel the building to various classes. It is always important for us to understand how our students spend much of their days. Please mark your calendars.

Pick up a dropped off item? Please stop by the student office and look for the student drop off area sign. (Parents/Guardians, please label item your dropping with name) Please note; we do not interrupt classes for drop offs. Please stop by between classes to check for your item.

The Bedford Safe Homes Program

The Bedford Safe Homes Program is a support network for families with children in Grades 6-12 who are concerned about alcohol and drug use at pre-teen and teen parties. Families sign a pledge that commits them to provide a safe and supervised home in the event of a teen party or gathering. All families who return a pledge receive a Directory that includes the other families who have joined Safe Homes.

The Safe Homes Program is endorsed by the following Bedford community partners: Board of Health, Select Board, Youth and Family Services, Clergy Association, Bedford Community Partnership, School Parent Associations, Police Department, Public School and Recreation Commission.

How To Join The Safe Homes Program

To participate in the Safe Homes Program, parents or guardians can navigate to the Youth and Family Services website to read the non-legally binding agreement and register online - or to download a copy of the application and pledge to mail in.

Directories are updated annually in late fall. Families of high school students who graduated in 2021 will be removed from this year’s Directory. If you registered last year, you do not need to re-register. Should you wish your family’s name to be removed from the Directory or you have other changes or additions to your information (e.g., new 6th grader or phone number), please email

Please consider taking a firm stand. Join the Safe Homes Program by thoughtfully signing the pledge. We ask that you follow through on your pledge because other parents will trust that you are. Talk with your child about this program and share your concerns regarding his/her safety.
