Newsletter Week 5 Term 2
Huirangi Primary School, 31st May 2021
Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!
Things here at school are always busy, and I love visiting the classes every day to sit and talk with our tamariki about their work. I know you will all agree how lucky our kids are having such outstanding teachers! I had the privilege of teaching in He Puāwai last Friday. It was awesome to see how well the youngest members of our school whānau manage themselves in both their learning and in play.
Last week we said farewell to Devy and Nikau Kettle. We wish them all the best for their time at Mimi School.
In response to the feedback I have received from the School Hoodie Survey (88% yes), the Year 5 and 6 students have been doing some creative thinking designing possibilities for what our hoodies will look like. Last Thursday I took a group of 4 budding young designers to Game Changer in New Plymouth to meet the team that will be in charge of our hoodie project (see photo). The girls and I learnt so much about the processes involved in fashion and graphic design in getting ideas from 'start to finish'. We are continuing to work closely with Game Changer and will hopefully have a final product to launch in the coming weeks. Watch this space!
Every term our Board reviews our policies. This month one of the policies is Reporting to Parents. See the link below to familiarise yourself with this policy:

Please remember that this Friday is Teacher Only Day. School will be closed for all students, and will sadly remain open for the staff to do some hard mahi!
Kia pai to wiki (have a great week)!

3 Way Conferences
We aim for 100% turnout as it is vital that we are able to touch base in person with parents to celebrate successes and discuss next steps and goals.
A time preference form will be sent home shortly. This is for you to indicate which day and 'time block' you would prefer and we will try to set appointment times to suit everyone!
If you cannot make any of the proposed dates, please contact your child's teacher directly via email, to make an appointment, otherwise, return your preference slip to the school office by 9am Monday 28th June.

Paid Union Meeting
Our teachers will be attending a paid union meeting on the afternoon of 23rd June.
The purpose of these meetings is for teachers to discuss the priorities for the renegotiation of their collective agreement in 2022. Issues being discussed, such as school staffing levels, directly impact on the education of your children. These meetings are a critical component of the negotiation process and it is the legal right of all members to attend a meeting and have their say.
While there will be some impact on the usual school programme that day, we have adjusted the programme to minimise disruption. School will close at 1pm. If you have a problem collecting your child at this time, please contact the school.
