Romeo And Juliet Act 2 Summaries
Party time and Romeo goes off to Juliet
After the party ends, Romeo can't stop thinking about Juliet, so he ditches Mercutio and Benvolio and heads back to the Capulet house. Mercutio and Benvolio try to find Romeo after the party. They assume that Romeo is going to find Rosaline. Afterwards, they crack a lot of dirty jokes at Romeo's expense. Mercutio is offended that Romeo left them.
Romeo listens then talks to Juliet on the balcony
The scene starts with Romeo watching Juliet, who is standing on a balcony. As he observes her, he compares her to the sun. Romeo listens to Juliet confess her love to him. After he hears her confession, he reveals himself to her and confesses his love. The two promise to marry one another.
Romeo wants to get married
Romeo tracks down Friar Lawrence who has been out foraging for medical plants. Friar looks at Romeo and notices that he hasn’t gotten any sleep that night. He assumed that he hooked up with Roseline. Friar decides to help out Romeo but not because he’s romantic but because he thinks it would bring the two families together and stop fighting. Friar skips the lecture on fidelity and commitment and goes right to agreeing with the marriage.
Tybalt wants to duel and Romeo gets Juliet to go to the church
Mercutio and Benvolio still don’t know where Romeo is. Turns out Tybalt wants to duel Romeo and Mercutio is convinced Romeo doesn’t want to duel. Romeo shows up as his old energetic, joking self that Mercutio and Benvolio noticed when he showed up. They engage in their trash talking and telling of dirty jokes. Romeo manages to get the nurse alone to tell her that Juliet needs to get an excuse to go to Friar Lawrence’s church to get married.
Romeo and Juliet plan to get it on after their marriage
In an orchard at the Capulet place, Juliet waits for the nurse to come back with a message from Romeo. The nurse comes back and refuses to tell Juliet anything Romeo said. Finally the nurse tells Juliet to run to Friar Lawrence’s room so they can get married. The nurse tells Romeo that there will be a ladder going up to Juliet's room and spend their wedding night together. The nurse means that they’re going to have sex.
Romeo and Juliet gets married
Friar Lawrence tries to convince Romeo to calm down a little and that marriage is a long term deal. Unfortunately it went in one ear and out the other. Juliet runs in to marry Romeo. They can barely keep their hands off each other. Friar Lawrence takes them off to marry them.
