Special Olympics Unified School Update

- Inclusive Sports
Most of these activities occur during the school day. We have peer buddies, kindness club, spread the word campaign, young athletes, inclusive recess, and mileage club. Special Olympics provided us with resources and equipment for the young athletes program. We took a pause from recess and peer buddies/young athletes during winter and look forward to adding this back at recess.
This is our first year of implementation we are working on creating a more inclusive environment every day. March 1 is the global launch of the 2023 Spread the Word campaign. We invite everyone to wear blue in honor of our commitment to inclusion.
Going All In(clusive): This thematic is action-oriented—a motivational rallying cry that doubles down on the belief that everyone is the goal of our efforts. We are calling on our youth, our Special Olympics athletes and ambassadors to share their stories of courage, dedication, and engagement for inclusion. There are encouraged to share when the last time was that they went all in(clusive)—totally committed to something, bet everything on a hand, stood up for something they believed in. In a call to action, each individual message is encouraged to end with a personal commitment on how they plan to “go all in” to take their own action for inclusion.
