The Problem
1.3 billion people suffer from light poverty-they do not have access to safe or reliable electricity. Engineering Brightness harnesses the power of community, a philanthropic spirit and unbound talent to help families world wide receive the gift of light and realization that their intelligence can make a difference.
In this webinar, you will learn from Tracey Winey and John Howe that light poverty can be eradicated, that students can engineer solutions that can be implemented today, and design thinking applies to global impacts.

The project focuses on helping students devise solutions to one of the biggest issues on our planet and that is plastic pollution. How can we play a part in reducing the amount of plastic polluting our earth? The project will partner classrooms up from all over the world to share, collaborate, and help understand that regardless of where we live we all are facing similar issues AND we all can develop solutions to do our part for a cleaner planet.
The focus will be on creating local solutions for global change. Some amazing experts will join them to help provide authentic feedback and an authentic audience for the solutions students develop.
Registration is open now and will remain open through October. Over the next two months they will continue to unveil new exciting features on the site and coordinate schools for their partnerships. Today is just the start to some amazing opportunities coming down the pipeline.
Finishing up at the end of October, for digital citizenship week this year, 4th grade students from Nashville, Tennessee, USA will have a deeper understanding of what it means to be a global citizen. The main objectives are:
Students see how technology helps us connect and collaborate with other schools around the world
Students recognize how quickly we can connect with others via social media
Students understand how technology can help us learn about other cultures around the world
