Winter Break
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Liberty Park Families,
It is hard to believe that the 1st semester of the 19/20 school year is coming to an end. I am so proud of our students for all of the growth that they have achieved so far this year. Thank you parents for all that you do to help prepare your students for school each and every day. We could not do what we do with out your support.
I wish each of our LP families a safe and enjoyable holiday break. Next week will be our last week of school and we will be looking forward to seeing students back at school in 2020!
I hope that you and your family have a great weekend and as always, I thank you for your continued support of Liberty Park Elementary!

Tardy Bell
Just a reminder that our late bell rings at 8:05. Students that arrive to school after 8:05 are counted as Tardy. Every minute that a child is in school is important to her learning. When he/she is tardy, they face the challenge of trying to settle in and catch up with what other students are doing. He/She is behind and has to struggle to understand material the teacher has already explained. Being late is detrimental to their learning, especially if it occurs on a consistent basis.
Canned Food Drive
Thank you so much for supporting our local LP and Warren community! We were able to collect over 3400 cans! 1st grade students won the grade level contest by collecting 1,442 cans!
Peanut Free School

Notes from the Nurse
ALL medications MUST be brought to the school by a parent and signed into the clinic. Students are NEVER to transport medications in a backpack. This includes prescriptions, over the counter medications such as Tylenol, cough drops, Motrin, creams, etc.
If a student is found to have a medication at the school, the nurse will lock it in a cabinet and call a parent to come pick it up. Thank you.
Indianapolis Urban League - Read and Rise!
The Indianapolis Urban League is partnering with Warren Township to offer a program, Read and Rise, to our parent community. The foundation of the program is aimed at promoting reading and literacy development in the home. Their mission is to reinforce that parents are a child's first and most important teacher.
Warren will host three family literacy workshops as outlined below:
Thursday, November 21; 6:00-7:30 p.m. at ECC; Focus on Birth to Age 4
Tuesday, December 3; 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Lakeside; Focus on Kindergarten and 1st Grade, up to age 7
Tuesday, January 7; 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Lakeside; Focus on 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade, up to age 9
IUL teaches the workshops, provides how-to guides for parents and reading materials for children.

Additional Updates and Information
Winter Recess Policy - School Board and School policy encourage outdoor recess for our K-4 students whenever possible to encourage activity and social playtime. Our threshold for cold weather is 20 degrees. When the temperature falls below 20, students will have recess indoors. The 20 degree temperature would also include wind chill. In other words, if the temperature is 25 but the windchill falls below 20 degrees, students would remain indoors for recess. If students are not feeling well or a parent wants them to stay in for health reasons beyond 1-2 days, a doctor's note is required.
Holly Jolly Fest - Our Annual PTA Holly Jolly Fest at LIberty Park is scheduled for Friday, December 6th. If you have interest in setting up a vendor booth, please contact our PTA and/or see the Vendor Booth Application that you can download below in this newsletter.
4th grade Parents - Please watch for a permission letter to come home with your student regarding the Human Growth and Development session facilitated by LifeSmart. This is a program offered to 4th grade students across the district. This letter includes links to access more information regarding this opportunity. Our program date is Thursday, January 30th.
Warren's High Ability Program is designed to meet the unique academic needs of gifted and talented students. The curriculum in these classes is differentiated and faster paced and students will be working above grade level if they qualify. As a district, we look at all students in grades 1, 4, 6 and 8 to see if they qualify for the following school year based on eligibility criteria. Parent recommendations are considered along with achievement scores when determining placement in high ability. More detailed identification information can be found here. If you would like to complete a recommendation for the broad based planning committee to consider you can do so here 2020-2021 High Ability Parent Recommendation Form The parent recommendation form will be open until January 31, 2020.
AM Drop Off: Students should not be dropped off in the front of school until the 7:55am bell. In efforts to keep all students safe, kids should remain in vehicles until the bell.
- Birthday Treat Policy: All MSD Warren Schools have aligned their birthday celebration policies to the district’s wellness policy. As part of our efforts towards health and wellness, we follow a “no birthday treats” guideline.
- Student Absences: If your child is ill and will not be at school, please call the front office at 532-1850 or use your School Dismissal Manager App to report his/her absence. Please call and report if your child will be arriving late to school due to a doctor’s appointment. Doing so helps us to know that your child is safe and with you.
