A Message from the Principal
Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s):
The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority. To provide our school with an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, our district Superintendent Tony Spence and our school staff are supporting an opportunity for all students and staff to participate in an options-based ALICE drill scheduled for October 24, 2022.
GOALS – The goals of the training day are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. The day will allow us to evaluate our emergency operations plan and improve our response skills. Most importantly, it provides an opportunity for the students and staff to develop a “tool belt” of skills which empowers them to make the best decisions for survival if they ever experience a similar emergency (in school or in life.) As part of the drill, the students and staff will participate in the activation of our Board of Education approved ALICE Response Options. Police and Rescue are working closely with the district and will be onsite during the drills.
SIMULATION LEVEL – The focus of the day is on actively practicing ALICE skills, not on scaring students. At the elementary schools, there will be no “gun” and no simulated injury scenes. Instead an air horn and verbal announcements will be used to alert the staff and the students.
CLOTHING SUGGESTIONS FOR TRAINING DAY – Because of the activity level of the ALICE training scenario, comfortable clothing and tennis shoes are recommended. Remember to bring a jacket if it is a cold and/or rainy day. It may require students to be outdoors.
ALTERNATIVE TRAINING -Students who are opted out of the ALICE Training will be with the students services team during the drill. The will be in a location of the school not involved in the drill. A notice about the drill was sent home with your child on October 14. If you would like to opt your child out of the ALICE drill, please complete and return the bottom portion of the letter by Friday, October 21.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.
Sincerely,
Jessica Grimm, Principal
