- 90% of Level One students remain level one for their ENTIRE school career.
- To improve at reading, STUDENTS must practice reading.
- Reflect: What percentage of the school day do your students practice reading and writing? How can you increase the percentage?

Newsela for Kids -- Current Event Articles
News articles at various levels are available on this site. The free version gives access to the articles. The articles can be searched by a variety of tools, including grade level, reading standard, and language (English/Spanish). https://newsela.com/elementary/
Easy Science for Kids
Teachers can choose articles from the following major areas: animals, human body, earth science, technology, biographies, fun activities (experiments). Topics and grade levels can be searched, as well. Links to specific, teacher-directed articles can be placed on the student desktop or Google Classroom accounts. http://easyscienceforkids.com/
ReadWorks
This site allows teachers to sort by lexile level, grade level, topic, etc. It is a powerful site that many teachers use to find a passage that is appropriate for students. Please remember that digital "eyes on text" can be just as powerful as paper "eyes on text." What will students do with the information? Increasing Rigor
