Big picture

Got the urge to purge?

In just over a month, our sixth graders will travel to the Three Oaks Outdoor Science School (OSS) for a week of confidence-building, hands-on science and fun! We are furiously fundraising to make that special time possible for our sixth graders. From now until Friday, we ask that you donate clothing, shoes and bedding as a part of an OSS fundraiser. Donations should be clean and in good repair. They can be dropped off in the foyer of the MPR prior to the end of day on Friday. Then, they will be picked up and reused by a company that will pay our school for those donations. You can also donate directly to OSS. Checks can be made to Sycamore Elementary School.

Time for the Talent Show!

Sycamore's Annual Talent Show gives students the chance to share their talents with an audience of friends and family. All students can participate. They need only to complete a parent permission slip and participate in an “audition” on February 19 or 20 to ensure their performance is well-planned and appropriate for our young audience. The Talent Show permission slip is attached to this week's Blackboard email and is available in the school office.

The Talent Show will be held on Sunday, February 23 from 1:00-3:30 PM. The event is not only a delightful event highlighting talent, creativity and courage, it is a family friendly fundraiser for our 6th graders’ trip to Outdoor Science School (OSS). Tickets are $5 each. They are available in the office starting Wednesday February 19 and on the day of the event. This year's Talent Show will NOT include lunch as it has in past years. Instead, we will have snacks and drinks for sale while we watch the show. All funds from ticket prices and the snack bar will go to OSS.

A little input, please?

There are many subtle and hands-on opportunities to support your child's education. In addition to those every day routines, I would like to suggest one more way. Please complete Claremont Unified's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) survey. The annual survey collects the views of students, staff, and parents and provides the LCAP Committee and District staff with valuable input as they create short and long term plans for Claremont students. The survey is available through this Friday, February 7, and it should take just 10-15 minutes to complete. Simply use this link to take the survey:

*Earlier in the year, we asked parents and students to take a Sycamore-specific survey. This centered on our school's learning environment and culture. We reviewed the results of this survey in our January Governance Council meeting and will use this data to continue to direct our school's efforts for strengthening social emotional learning. We realize taking these surveys requires your time. We sincerely appreciate your honest reflection, feedback and investment.
