This is an intentional multi-age grouping and smaller groupings to promote our schoolwide focus on building belonging. Last night we had our PTO sponsored Ice Cream social thank you to the PTO for organizing such a wonderful event, and to our families for coming out to connect.

Family Resource --Due Today

Please include the following information from the Social Work Department in your building-level communication to families this week, as the form is due August 26. (thanks in advance):

In D303, we value the opportunity to provide a community of care and support to our families, especially those faced with financial hardship.

If your family is currently experiencing a significant financial need, our community partnerships have several supports available for families, including school clothes/shoes, winter coats/accessories, school supplies, toiletries, holiday meals, and/or holiday gifts. If you would like to be considered for any of these supports, please complete the Family Resource Form by August 26, 2022.

FROM THE OFFICE:

Smartwatches and Phones

Technology can be a wonderful way to keep in touch with family members. However, smartwatches and phones can become quite disruptive to the learning environment when parents are contacting their children throughout the day (and vice versa). The Elementary School Handbook contains the following language:

Students are extended the privilege of possessing phones/smartwatches on school grounds; however, their use is limited to after-school dismissal and non-school days. These devices must be in the off position, or not used once the student arrives on campus until the end of the school day.

Teachers will be requesting that students leave their watches and phones in backpacks or another class-designated place each day when they enter the classroom so that learning can continue uninterrupted.

WATCH DOGS

Hello DOGS!

Thank you for your interest in being a positive male role model in our building this school year! We look forward to our Friday visits from all of you and please remember to invite a friend, neighbor or family member that would like to get involved! They will need to complete the background check paperwork but all are welcome!

If you already completed your background check last school year then you are good to go and can start coming in asap! If you took paperwork last night at the meeting or need paperwork please come into Lincoln and get it from the front office.

Here is the link to add your name to the schedule for the first half of the school year.

If you did not attend the meeting last week, you will need to contact the office to ensure you ahve everything required to volunteer before signing up.

Support with Spirit Wear

Here at Lincoln School, we want all of our students to have the opportunity to wear Spirit Wear and show their school pride! If your child does not have Lincoln Spirit Wear and purchasing it would be a financial hardship for your family, please contact Celina Wollak, Lincoln Social Worker at celina.wollak@d303.org.

Open House--replacing former curriculum night

This fall as a district we are shifting our practice from curriculum night to an Open House. Lincoln will host ours on September 8, 2022. This will be a time that you and your child will come in together to self-tour our school, your child will lead you through classroom procedures, and routines, and introduce you to various staff using a BINGO card to guide the evening. There will not be a formal presentation during this evening instead teachers and staff will use newsletters, emails, Schoology or Seesaw to share the going on and curriculum of the year as it comes rather than sharing all of it at the beginning of the year.

Our Open house will allow families to come in anytime between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 8th. Usually the self-guided tour and completion of the BINGO card will take about 20 minutes or so, again there will not be a formal presentation, staff will be in their classrooms, and common spaces and available to help in any way as you work through the BINGO activities. Upon completion please place your name and homeroom on the BINGO card, the class with the highest percentage of participation will win a popsicle party and we will also hold a drawing for 3 students to win a raffle.
