Phalen Virtual Leadership Academy
"Bytes" From Your School Leader, Dr. Townsend
January 19, 2024
Greetings Phalen Virtual Leadership Academy Families,
Happy Friday! What a wonderful Week 24 at PLA Virtual! Did anyone else get their days confused with a short week? Okay, maybe it was just me! 😅 Next week is a full week, so no room for confusion.
We have finally received snow in Indiana that has some substance to it. Do you know what the MOST amazing part of snow while attending a fully virtual school is?!?! You guessed it! No snow days! We operate as usual in the comfort of our warm homes, when other in-person schools are closed and will be required t make-up those days when the weather is warm and sunny. No one has to fight traffic or worry about being late, as we have no need to drive into a school building. We only come out in the snow for mandatory state testing and school events!
We hope you enjoy the upgrades we have made to this weekly communication for Semester 2. As a reminder, if there is any information that you would like shared with you by PLA Virtual, please do not hesitate to reply to this email and the messages will be sent directly to me, Dr. Townsend.

We look forward to seeing your scholar(s) on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 8:35am for Week 25 at PLA Virtual!
With Gratitude,
Dr. Townsend, Principal

Warming Centers Indiana:
Warming centers are facilities that provide relief from extreme cold weather conditions. Hours, days, and locations are subject to change at any moment, or be extended under extreme conditions. It is advisable to always contact the non-emergency number for your local police department, fire department, or 211 to confirm the information and for assistance. A Community Navigator can be reached 24/ at @ 2-1-1.
Stay Warm and Stay Safe!

Free Coats for Kids is available in many cold weather states, including the northeast and Midwest. Non-profit clothing centers as well as partner organizations collect goods from the community. The Salvation Army and Operation Warm are major participants. They then provide the warm coats, gloves, hats and other items to children and students, free of charge as part of Coats for Kids.
