History
The battle of Gettysburg and the Gettysburg Address were event that took place during the Civil War (1861-1865) in a small field farming community in Pennsylvania called Gettysburg. The area was mostly just grass, not much hills and it was mostly flat. Gettysburg is a small town in Pennsylvania. During the Civil war, Gettysburg became an important place.The epic Battle of Gettysburg ultimately turned the tides of the of the Civil war because was the Confederate's only and last big win of the battle. This place also held the "famous Gettysburg Address given by President Abraham Lincoln". (Smithsonian 228) The battle of Gettysburg was also known as the" most deadliest engagement in the civil war as it resulted in 50,000 casualties in just three days" (npca.org) The History of Gettysburg is important because these events were eventually known as the highlights of the Civil war.

Current Importance
Gettysburg is important today because it has one of the most historically important national parks in America. One of the reasons Gettysburg still has a current importance is because Gettysburg has one of the many memorials of people who have died during the Civil war. It is home to a lot of statues dedicated to fallen soldiers and generals. Another reason of Gettysburg's importance is the Gettysburg National park. Made in right after the Civil war, it became one of the most important National park in America and it holds many tourist events, teaching people about the Civil war, year round. The last reason Gettysburg is important is the national cemetery. Over 3,500 soldiers were laid to rest there. The history of Gettysburg was the main factor that made this small town important today. If there was never a battle on Gettysburg many people would not have known it even existed!
