AISD INNOVATION SUMMIT: Davis was well-represented at the AISD Innovation Summit yesterday. Following a Most Likely to Succeed screening, two of our 5th grade students participated in a student panel discussion. Liz Carrera, along with some of her 5th grade students, presented a session on the latest 5th grade PBL, Every Animal Has a Story to Tell. 5th grade students also presented their Careers in Art PBL information. We had a student team of 3rd and 5th grade students who pitched to AISD 'sharks' in the MakerSpace Design Challenge. Our 'Team MakerSpace' did such a great job and brought home a grand prize win for Davis, $8000 toward mobile maker carts!!! All students who attended the innovation summit will be recognized at next week's assembly (5/16). Thanks to Liz Carrera for preparing and presenting at the summit. Thanks also to Lauren Meyer for spending time researching and meeting with students to prepare for the MakerSpace challenge. Thanks to Nicole Garry for preparing Careers in Art information to share. And special thanks to Jane Weber for spending the afternoon attending sessions, supporting students, and serving as our 'tech support' when we ran into a few technical issues.

STAAR TESTING: With STAAR testing Monday-Wednesday this week, please review the STAAR reminders document attached below (also sent by Courtney to everyone earlier this week).

SUMMATIVE CONFERENCES: Summative conferences will take place next week, May 16-20. We will schedule conferences through Google Calendar, and you will be notified this week of your scheduled time. All conferences will initially be scheduled during teacher planning times, but we will be glad to reschedule for before or after school if that is your preference. With so many teachers to meet with during this very short window of time, each conference will be scheduled for 15 minutes. You do not need to prepare anything written for this meeting, but we ask that you come prepared to discuss the following:

  • successes this year
  • challenges this year
  • goals for next year
  • professional development plans for summer
  • things that administrators can do to support you

GRADE LEVEL PLANNING 2016-2017: We are working to schedule one-hour planning meetings for each grade level on Wednesday, May 25.
