Prinicipal's Message
In Dr. Elsasser's Family Update this week, you learned of adjustments to the Continuum of Learning plan. We hope these changes will be supportive of students and families given the extension of distance learning through the rest of this school year. The workload of assignments will continue to be similar for students, with a general expectation for daily practice in English-Language Arts and math, as well as regular PE and weekly connections for science, social studies, and art. By April 20, your child's teacher will outline ways they'll provide opportunities for instruction and details on how to share student work samples. Though online learning presents great challenges for each student and family, we are determined to support all our students and help them grow in their academic skills and confidence.
A child's path to learning is always unique. This is especially true given our current situation and a remote learning model. We are striving to build systems that will help make this manageable for families and staff, and we want you to know we will do what we can to help you stay informed, connected and equipped with the resources you need. Please reach out for help as you need it...we all need it.
I can be reached at astanger@cusd.claremont.edu
We are sincerely thankful for all you are doing.

SPIRIT WEEK!
Our major fundraisers, fall's Family Dance and spring's Sycamore Celebrates, include auctions of items donated by local businesses and contributions by our parents. Many extend their resources, donate or carve out their profit margins to provide us with school t-shirts, banners, scrip, and auction items. During these difficult financial times, keep these businesses in mind, and, as you are able, consider giving back to these who have been so generous to our school over the years.
Pizza N'Such is one local business that has been incredibly generous toward Sycamore. For over ten years, they've been the spot for our monthly dinner with Sycamore friends. And, thanks to the generosity of the Verbal family, we've raised over $2000 each year for our school. Over this coming week, let's thank them and have a virtual pizza night! Grab take out from Pizza N'Such and encourage your friends to do the same. Any day this week, share a picture of your family enjoying pizza (takeout or homemade) on our Sycamore Governance Facebook Page, a virtual dinner party with our Sycamore friends.

Governance Council Members Needed
Governance Council serves our school as a shared decision making body including families, community members and staff. It functions both our Parent Faculty Association and our School Site Council, focusing on the school's plan for student achievement, community building activities for the school and fundraisers that support those activities. Governance Council is currently looking for members who will serve in leadership roles for the coming year. If you are interested or you’d like to nominate a parent or community member, please contact our Co-Facilitator, Estelle Cordova at eacordova2013@gmail.com or at 562-360-5919 by April 24. The school community will vote for these members using an online ballot in early May. Details coming soon.
