God Wants What Is Best for My Family
Sunday, preschoolers are learning "God Loves My Family" through the story of Cornelius and elementary kids are learning "God Wants What Is Best for My Family" through the story of Hannah & Samuel.
As we're teaching that God wants what's best for my family, I think it's quite fitting that we're telling the story of Hannah & Samuel. Hannah, who wanted a child so badly and couldn't conceive. Any of us can understand how her circumstances might seem as if it were hard for her to believe that God wanted what was best for her family. But here's what I love:
"Deeply hurt, Hannah prayed to the Lord and wept with many tears. She pleaded to the Lord." Hannah took her hurt, her confusion, her despair to the Lord. Her habit of prayer was less about her goodness and more about God's greatness. She believed that He was powerful. She trusted that He was good. She rested in His presence.
Ask the Lord to help you believe that He really does want what is best for you & your family. If you struggle with doubt or fear or faith, then search for some verses that you can preach to yourself when these thoughts come up. This is just another method that we can use to not give the enemy a seat at our table. Here are some for me:
He is compassionate & gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving kindness & truth
Exodus 34:6
He is good to all
Psalm 145:9
He is near to all who call upon Him
Psalm 145:18
He gives life to the dead & calls things into existence that do not exist
Romans 4:17
He is always generous & lending
Psalm 37:26
I am loved with an everlasting love
Jeremiah 31:3
I am more than a conqueror
Romans 8:37
I have the peace of God which passes all understanding
Philippians 4:7
I am blessed & surrounded with favor like a shield. I am crowned with glory & honor, ruler over God’s works, everything is under my feet
Psalm 8:4-6
All things work together for my good
Romans 8:28
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living
Psalm 27:13
I have been given His power and have everything required for life & godliness
2 Peter 1:3
