### May 2nd - 6th, 2016

This week brings another week of EOG Test Taking Strategies and Skills review. This week we are reviewing the skills related to looking at theme of dramas (RL 4.2) and explaining the difference between poems, drama, and prose and refer to the structural elements of each (RL 4.5). The following website has some great info in regards to theme as well as a few practice pages. http://mrswarnerarlington.weebly.com/theme.html

Students did not bring home their NC Ready booklet this past Thursday. They will bring it home this WEDNESDAY for you to view/review. Remember, if the book does not return there will be a \$12 fee to replace it. We use this booklet in class daily, so it must return.

On Thursday we will have a mock literacy EOG during 1st and 2nd block. It will consist of everything we have learned this school year and all we have reviewed the past few weeks.

## Math

This week in math we will be finishing up our unit on decimals. We will be adding and subtracting decimals. Furthermore, we will be estimating and rounding decimals. Please continue to encourage your child to use their problem solving strategies on their EOG prep homework and be on the lookout for their EOG math coach book to be coming home for practice.

## Science and Social Studies

We will be having a review/study guide in Social Studies and then a test on government. Look for the study guide! Remember that any test is worth 60% on the grades.

The International Projects were awesome and now the grading begins...I should have them graded and recorded before we have mid-quarter progress reports. Thank you to all who participated!!!!!!!!

For Science I will be incorporating a project and hands-on experiment. Since we have to have an in class Science Fair students will be making water bottle ecosystems. We will be putting Coleus seeds in the water bottle to see if we can get the plants to grow. As we go along students will fill in the parts of a science fair board. Two projects in one and done!!

## Super Field Trip...

Our Fourth Grade students had a great time at Grandfather Mountain and Linville Caverns!

According to students the best thing was the Swinging Bridge and the least liked was having the lights out in the cavern...kinda scary:(

Thank you to our parent chaperon's and students for a wonderful experience. Everyone learned something new!
