Micro Elementary School Newsletter
August 26th Edition
The First Week of School!
As we embark upon our first week of school, I want to remind you of the question Why not? Can our school be the best elementary school in the school district? Why not? Can we reach that hard to reach student? Why not? When things get tough and we worry that things will never turn around, ask Why Not? Can you implement new practices in your classroom? Why not?
The sky's the limit for our little school this year. Whatever the goal, idea, challenge is, I implore you to ask Why not?
Each students counts. Every moment matters.

Micro Headlines

- PLC meetings will begin on Week 2. No PLC's the first week.
- A team of staff members will be coming around Monday mid-morning to ensure that we know how each student will dismiss home on the first day.
- Here is the schedule for teaching our students the school wide expectations.
- Please remember to complete the Micro Elementary Staff Learner Profile and the JCPS Roadmap Inventory if you have not already done so.
- Reactivate or activate your Flocabulary Account. Click Here
- Flocabulary has writing lessons!!! Students can use beats from the program to create high-interest writing samples. Click here!!!
- Sign up for Edcamp JoCo: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/edcamp-joco-tickets-48148714100/amp#click=https://t.co/xv1j95QgVQ
- To build excitement with our students regarding reading, we are establishing a secret society of readers. Please add the names of student in our school who love to read, regardless of their grade or skill level. These are the students who choose to read in their free time, need to be asked to put their books away, and simply love to read!!! Please add them to our list on invitees here.
- The first Ed Foundation Grant Deadline will be September 1st. Here is a link to the application: click here So far I have signed off on 4 Ed Foundation Grants. Way to go!
- mClass Update: For grades 2-3 there will be an online option for students to read and take assessments. Our thoughts initially are that this will be great options for our more advanced readers. It should be noted that if students begin the year using the online option, they must stay on that track. We will share additional mClass updates next week at PLC.
- Teachers: Our custodial staff has delivered cases of paper to your classroom. This paper should last until Christmas Break. Homeroom teachers will receive 6,000 copies first semester and 5,000 copies second semester. Non-homeroom teachers will receive 3,000 copies per semester. Our philosophy on copies is to give teachers the resources that they need and to keep costs reasonable. If there are concerns regarding copies during the year, please see TJ.
