READ ALL DAY...Becoming Avid Readers!

What is an avid reader, you ask? Avid Readers are people who love reading so much they can hardly bear to stop reading. They read all day long! This message is loud and clear in this unit as students set up reading playdates in class, fall in love with characters, and develop their very own Super Reader Chart. Kids are set up to "go solo" and are encouraged to apply what they've learned in new settings, using their strategies flexibly and in multiple contexts. Read, Read, Read all day!

Kindergarteners...Changing the World!

Kindergarten students are living writerly lives by focusing on not only HOW to write but WHY we write. They are now writing for real meaningful purposes, sharing their opinions and convincing others to make a change. They learn that they can write to make their classroom, school and world a better place. By creating signs, songs, petitions or letters about problems they see in their everyday lives, students become empowered to change the world in which they live.
