Welcome to Dummer!
2023-2024
We are so glad you are here!
Welcome to H.E.Dummer 2023-2024 school year! We are excited to start the year and work hand in hand with you as a collaborative team giving our students and their families the best possible experiences while here at Dummer School. We don’t take our jobs lightly and hold high expectations for ourselves and our students. You will be receiving a lot of information from your student’s teachers and the school to start the year, but I did want to highlight some important things right away before the school year begins.
All cell phones and data watches need to be turned off and in backpacks when they are in school. They may be turned on when students leave the building at the end of the day. If there is an emergency, you may call the school office at (815)786-8498 or if your student needs to contact you, they may use the office phone.
Parking is tight so please drop off and pick up quickly so others may move into your spot. Please see the included parking map of where vehicles are allowed to park to drop off and pick up students. If students are late to school or if you need to pick up your student early, you will need to come to the back of the school and ring the doorbell. Our first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. and students should be in their classrooms by 8:00 a.m. School is dismissed at 2:55 p.m.
Due to the rise in allergies and medical needs, the district policy does not allow students to bring in treats to share for birthdays or special occasions. Instead, they encourage other tangible things such as stickers, pencils, erasers, etc. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Homework completion is important! This is an opportunity for independent practice showing the teachers what your student knows and/or may need help with. Our goal is for our students to learn and grow which puts responsibility also on the students. This is a life-long skill which we as a team are helping our students to grasp and learn. If homework/independent work is not completed, students will be responsible to complete this homework and will also have an opportunity to do so during non-academic portions of the day such as a lunch crunch time.
Treat others as you would want to be treated. Kids will be kids, and yes at times, will make some really bad decisions. It is a part of the growing up process, but with all actions there are consequences, good or bad. Please talk with your student on a daily basis and encourage them to be kind and respectful to all, and when they do make a mistake, WE ALL DO, to accept the consequences and work to remedy the situation.
Most importantly, please know we are here because we love what we do! Are we perfect? Nope! Are we always learning and improving? Yep! Please know we can’t do this without you and communication is key both from us and you. Never be afraid to contact any of us, we love to hear from you and can’t do this without you.
THE POWER OF A POSITIVE TEAM! :)
Sincerely,
Lynette Ford
