Fairy Garden Love
We had the opportunity this week to discuss how our actions and words can make our friends feel. Around the Fairy Garden on Wednesday a child said loudly "I HATE the Fairy Garden!" This created a bit of a stir amongst the group and upset some of the children. They looked to the teacher to help them resolve the situation. To begin with the teacher spoke to the children about strong words and what can happen when these types of words are used. In this instance, the strong word offended children who loved the Fairy Garden, children who were actively involved in designing and installing the unique garden. As a small group the children were able to openly express their feelings and ideas about the garden. This resulted in a discussion by children about what they liked about the Fairy Garden which lifted the spirits of everyone. Children can also learn that others have a right to express different opinions but this can be done respectfully and without the use of strong language. In the end the child who initially "hated" the Fairy Garden found something he liked about it also.
Izzy- "I love all of it"
Harper- "I love two things -the blue fairy and the green fairy"
Daniel - "I like the flowers"

Teaching the Teacher
It is so lovely to see children growing in confidence at Pre-school. This was evident when several children were able to explain the rules of board games to a visiting teacher who was unfamiliar with the games. The children shared humour, satisfaction and joy at being able to show the teacher how to play "The Spotty Dog" and "The Snail" games. Children love so much, playing games with adults and friends. The verbal interactions which occur as a result of these games is priceless. Monopoly anyone??
