What Happened This Week?
ELA- Our class had a great time learning the long "i" vowel sound! The silent e is still sneaking around, scaring the vowels to make them say their own name. I love how excited your children are to learn these phonics skills! We also were able to build on what we learned about digraphs earlier in the year. We already learned about "sh" and "th," but this week we were able to learn three more, "ch" "wh" and "tch." Your children practiced word building and identified words with these phonics skills. Starfall is a great resource to practice phonics skills at home. Click on the button below to check out the website! It's amazing to see your children become better readers right before my eyes.
Math- We learned new tricks to help us improve our math skills. We were able to use 10 and doubles facts to help us solve a problem. We also built upon our subtraction skills and presented it in number stories. Everyday your children are using counters as manipulatives to see how these problems work. This enables the students to fully understand the math concepts and know why 6-2=4. This is critical in the learning process.
Social Science- Thanksgiving is quickly approaching! We read a book about the first Thanksgiving, made" thankful turkeys", and also finished a soon-to-be published narrative on what we are thankful for.
