The Week at a Glance
Final Thoughts
Dear Parents,
I simply want to thank each and every one of you--for the very last time--for sharing your child with me. It's been an amazing year filled with much joy and happiness that passed by at whirlwind speed. We have covered a lot of material and have gotten the opportunity to participate in many fun projects. We were lucky enough to go to Wendel Farms and visit their small animals, as well as tour the pumpkin patch. We were fortunate, too, to have experienced the arts through live theatre at Richmond's Civic Hall. Exciting educational opportunities came to us as well. For instance, the COSI traveling museum brought a wealth of knowledge to our students about the human body. Just the same, Indiana's Department of Natural Resources have presented fantastic programs to us, and so has the Union County Public Library. It doesn't end there. Today’s technology allowed the students to go on virtual filed trips to the Iditarod sled dog race in Alaska (and communicate electronically with me while I was there), reinforce learning through apps, and track racers' progress across the 1,049 frigid wilderness. Through extensive studies such as these, we started to develop the skills needed for 1st grade and beyond.
As your child gets ready for 1st grade this summer, (s)he can rest assure that it will be a wonderful upcoming school year. Students can look forward to meeting new friends, meeting Mrs. Ashbrook, Mrs. Beck, or Mrs. McCashland as his or her new teacher, utilizing the computers and tablets in the classroom, and going on several exciting school field trips.
As your child moves from kindergarten to 1st grade, there are some very important things that you can do this summer to help him or her succeed. Take the time to listen to your child read and make sure that they are reading each night for at least 15 minutes. Practice math facts so that they will be ready for 1st-grade math. Encourage your child to write often. If you go on vacation or take day trips this summer, then encourage your child to take a journal along and write/illustrate a little bit about their trip each day. This is a great way for children to get their thoughts organized onto paper. Encourage good social skills and help them make good choices and order for themselves if you go out to eat. All of these things will help your child lead to big successes the next school year.
It has been my pleasure getting to know your child this school year. Having your parental support was an essential part of the year. I would like to personally thank each and every one of the parents, grandparents, and other family members who have taken the time to volunteer in the classroom this year. Your dedication and support has not gone unnoticed. Thanks again for a wonderful year. Have a fantastic summer.
Educationally yours,
Mrs. Drudy

Monday, the last day of school, is bring your own bag day. Please make sure your child brings a large bag with his or her name clearly marked to transport some of the many things (s)he will be bringing home. As you've noticed, we've tried to send a little each day this week, but so much of what we have is being used until the very last day.
In addition to the bag, I'd like you to send back today's Friday folder. Report cards and other important end of the year correspondence will be sent back to you in this folder on Monday.
School Pride Rally
Monday is our last school pride rally. We ask that all students wear their "I Believe" t-shirts on this day. Thank you so much for your cooperation.
Summer Fun Learning Opportunities
The Union County Public Library is offering an exciting summer reading program, "Build A Better World." Speaking from experience, the summer reading program is a great opportunity for all learners. Information can be found in today's Friday folder or by clicking here.
Additionally, several of you have inquired about other fun things to do. I would recommend any program at our nearby state parks/recreational areas. Based upon what I saw out of last Friday's naturalist program, I'll bet these programs are simply top notch...and free (with entrance fees). Here is a link to our area's programming.
Raising the Big Top
On Tuesday, the KinderKids were able to watch the Kelly-Miller Circus staff raise the "big top" for the circus that visited Liberty that evening. It was an educational and amazing feat to observe. The ringmaster also shared a wealth of information about the animals and performers in the show. Be sure to ask your child about it and check out the photos below.
Field Day
The KinderKids have their very first L.E.S. field day under their belts. It was fun for me to watch those athletic little ones shine in that way today. I saw raw talent in ways I've never had the pleasure to observe. I'll bet they'll sleep well tonight!
