A Message from the Principal
Greetings Yellow Jacket Community-
"Something happens when we are transformed by the Holy Spirit...Jesus meets us where we are but does not leave us where we are...You can always defeat Goliath when you have a strong private prayer life...Search for God's hands in everything...Stop complaining...focus on what God can do...It is not your battle, it is God's...stop slacking off and remember the battle is not yours...put your trust in the Lord and you will have favor and succeed." David Bisono, Assembly 2018 Keynote Speaker and host of TV show, "Too Blessed To be Stressed"
These are some the inspiring words we heard this past weekend at the Archdiocese Assembly at St. Mary's University. It was a day filled with the Holy Spirit as we heard from Mr. Bisono, our Reverend Archbishop Gustavo and many different speakers who focused on the topics of Building a Catholic Culture of Encounter. There were many great messages to encourage all of us in building our Catholic church through our relationships with one another as this is the great message Jesus revealed to us as we love one another.
We have many opportunities to build these relationships with each other at St. Anthony Catholic High School. Tomorrow night, we will have a our Middle School Open House Night from 5-7pm. Everyone is welcome to attend or assist as we welcome the Class of 2023. On Friday, November 9, we have our Veteran's Day Mass and Reception at 8:00am. Next week, on Wednesday, November 14 from 6-8pm, we will have our annual Thanksgiving Potluck dinner sponsored by PTC/Booster Club. All families and friends are welcome to attend. See more information below on all these events and much more.
Our joyous blessings this past month include winning back to back State Championships in Volleyball and Cross Country for the 2nd year in a row. We had record breaking seasons! And, for the first time ever, we won 1st place in the Hope for the Future 5K Fun Run for the Most School Spirit. We are thankful for the PTC Board that hosted our booth and many others who joined in the fun-filled Archdiocese community event representing our school.
This week is National Vocation Awareness Week. Brother John Paige spoke to our students this morning about the importance of listening for God's call in our lives and shared the book of Samuel to encourage our students to 'hear' God. Below is more information you can share as a family. We will continue to pray for vocations throughout this month.
We only have 23 school days left until the semester is over and grades become permanent on the transcripts. We encourage all students to attend tutoring, reach out to teachers and let us know what we can do to assist in attaining the best grades that will impact the rest of their life. It is also very important to have good attendance and be on time to class as research shows there is correlation to these characteristics and academic success.
I have enjoyed praying with many families throughout the school year in my office. As we continue through the year, I would like to offer an invitation to all families to have a 'Prayer with the Principal' meeting where we can discuss your child's goals/academics/challenges and pray together. Please reach out to my secretary, Mrs. Sylvia Herrera-Haman at 210-832-5611 or email at herrerah@uiwtx.edu to schedule a 20-30 minute time slot. Our Director of Mission and Ministry, Rosi Cortez is also always available for prayer time.
Lastly, I am beyond excited to announce that the Archbishop will be celebrating mass for us as we kick off our Strategic Planning Weekend Retreat on Friday, March 29 at 5:30pm at UIW. He will bless our work as we strive to build a school that pleases God and lifts up the Catholic church in all that we do. We will be sharing much more information on the details of this special and exciting weekend and mass.
Heavenly and Loving Father, thank you for all that you provide for us daily. Thank you for reminding us of your great plan and love for us as we follow you, trust in you and believe in all the good you have in store for us as your children. Guide us. Inspire us and lead us to you in all that we do. Embrace all the children at our school and capture their hearts to HEAR you. May we shine your light in our words, actions and relationships with each other. In Jesus Name, Amen.
May your life be blessed!
Dr. Kristina Vidaurri
