Dear Erickson Families,

Tonight is Curriculum Night, Thursday, September 14th. There will be two identical presentations from 6:00-6:40 & 6:50-7:30 at Erickson. The Fine Arts Team (Librarian, PE, Art & Music) will have a brief presentation in the library from 6:40-6:50 if you would like to learn about Fine Arts programming. Feel free to drop in and see a specialist (special education teacher, speech, social worker, etc.) anytime between 6:00-7:30. This event is for parents only.

TOMORROW, Friday, September 15 is the first early dismissal day. ALL FULL DAY students will be dismissed at 1:40 tomorrow. Half-day PM kindergarten meets at their normal time, 12:40-3:30. There is NO morning or afternoon preschool tomorrow.

Pillar Day/Eagle's Nest is also tomorrow, Friday, September 15th. Students should wear their pillar t-shirts or pillar color. Kindergarten students should wear their character counts shirts. Students will meet in small Eagle Nest groups with students from all grades. These small groups will focus on building community, creating positive relationships, and promoting the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship as well as our SOAR expectations: Safety, Ownership, Appreciation and Respect.

• *Please note: 1:40 Early Dismissal Days/School Improvement are on FRIDAY. Early Dismissal/School Improvement days are one Friday per month and FULL DAY students are dismissed at 1:40 while teachers are involved in professional development activities. Half-Day PM Kindergarten will attend school at their normal PM times. Preschool does not attend on early dismissal days.

Each year Erickson staff set academic and social learning goals for students. This year our school goals will revolve around reading, math, truancy (school attendance), and building a positive climate/bully prevention goals. I will share goal updates throughout the school year.

Goal Statement

Develop attendance procedures that will encourage students (and families) to be in attendance daily and therefore will contribute to students' overall academic success.

2022-2023 Erickson Attendance Data

Number of students that were absent for more than 5% (or 9 out of 176 days) of the school year:

• 309 students out of 505 students. This equals 50 hours of missed instruction (~5.5 instructional hours per day).

• 61% of students were absent 5% or more of the school year

• 117 students out of 505 students. This equals 99 hours of missed instruction (~5.5 instructional hours per day).

• 23% of students were absent 10% or more of the school year.

• 30 students out of 505 students. This equals 143 hours of missed instruction (~5.5 instructional hours per day) of missed hours of instruction.

• 6% of students were absent 15% or more of the school year.

• 12 students out of 505 students. This equals 193 hours of missed instruction (5.5 instructional hours per day) of missed hours of instruction.

• 2% of students were absent 20% or more of the school year.

• Hot lunch order forms are DUE September 15, 2023. There is no exception made to the deadline. Please order ASAP if you would like to order hot lunch for your child(ren).

• If paying for membership for PTO, please write a separate check for PTO membership dues and not with school registration fees as the district office has indicated that it is necessary to have a separate check for PTO so there is no confusion. We appreciate it!

PTO FUNDRAISERS

• The first PTO dine out this school year is at Cafe Zupas on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 4pm-9pm. Let the cashier know that you are participating in the Erickson School Fundraiser.

• Erickson is excited to participate in the Cherrydale Fall Fundraiser again this year. The sale starts on September 15 and sale information is coming home this week. Register online and make the first 2 sales by Monday to be entered for a prize!

Welcome Erickson Parents!

We are excited to have you & your child join the Erickson Eagle family for the 2023/2024 school year! Erickson Elementary School and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) work hand-in-hand to make the most of your child’s experience at school. We ask that each family pay PTO Dues to make this possible.

The Membership Dues for PTO participation are $20 per family. This fee goes towards the cost for all classroom parties (Halloween, Winter and Valentine’s Day). It also gives you access to the online Erickson directory the PTO helps to organize. We will publish the information provided to the district (student name, address, parent email, phone number) unless you notify the school principal in writing before September 1, 2023 at sjohnston@sd13.org. Paying PTO Dues does not mean you are required to attend meetings or volunteer, but if you are interested, please see us on Information Day in August.

Wondering how else the Erickson Elementary PTO makes a difference?

• Fund Teachers Wish Lists after approval by the PTO.

• Sponsors & coordinates a Back to School Fair in August and Field Day in May.

• Organizes numerous activities & services throughout the school year such as Family Fun Nights, Hot Lunch, Book Fairs, Bake Sales, Holiday Gift Shop, School Store and School Supply Boxes just to name a few.

• Funds School Assemblies.

• Funds transportation & teachers participation in 5th Grade Lorado Taft trip.

• Organizes Teacher & Staff Appreciation activities throughout the year.

• Awards two $750 Scholarships each year to a High School Senior who attended Erickson.

Student Arrival:

Kindergarten-5 grade students can begin arriving at 8:25. Students should gather in the front of the building. Doors open at 8:30. Students should arrive by 8:40

Lunch Hours:

1st, 2nd & 3rd Grade Lunch: 12:00-12:25

4th-5th Grade Lunch: 12:25-12:50

Dropping off lunches from restaurants (ie- McDonald's, Wendy's, Panera, etc.) as well as using food delivery services to drop off food (ie -GrubHub, Door Dash) is not allowed. Students should bring their lunch in the morning to school each day. Safety is our number one priority and we would like to limit visitors.
