HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 2 Week 8 - 19 June 2020
FROM GEORDIE:
Well I guess this week I have no choice but to address the elephant in the room...
I made a point of assuming that West Coast would easily account for Gold Coast in last week's newsletter and it would seem that some of those 1st round draft picks are going to cause teams a headache or two this year. Not a good game to watch if you are a West Coast fan and I am really hoping we do a better job against Brisbane this week.
This week has been a lot of fun here at HR! I have had the opportunity to catch up with students in the playground and in class and the vibe around school has been really fun and upbeat. Teachers are now finalising testing and reports, students have been training for the Cross Country Carnival and it has been really nice catching up with parents briefly before and after school.
This week also marked the first Board and P&F meetings held onsite since the Covid pandemic began and it was great to get everyone up to speed in person and have the opportunity to officially thank the parent community for their support over the past few months.
I mentioned at the P&F meeting that we are currently working on a new Whole School Term Dates page to go home before the end of term. We are working hard to have this ready and we will have it as accurate as we can to allow parents to be organised in Semester 2. We are doing our best to organise a variety of different extracurricular opportunities in Semester 2 without significantly impacting students' classwork as we know how important uninterrupted class time is for our students' learning!
To help with this planning, I have created a simple form for parents to fill out if they are keen to do so. We are always happy to receive feedback and listen to ideas for moving forward. If you have a few minutes to spare we would love to hear from you. I can’t promise that we will take action on everything, however, it might spark a conversation, create discussion or be something I can take to the Board or P&F meetings in the future!
On a personal note, this weekend is ‘George and Audrey’s Birthday Weekend’. I am unsure how we have gone from a day to a weekend but according to Audrey we will be going out for dinner, riding around the river, swimming at the pool, having a sleepover with cousin Jim and baking two seperate cakes for their family dinner on Sunday… Could be an interesting weekend! The lesson here is not to leave your 5yo in charge!
Finally, I ask that everyone in our community takes a little time out to keep Sophie Martin in their thoughts and prayers. Sophie is in Year 6, part of our Siena Team and is currently quite ill in hospital. Mum Shellie, is hopeful of a speedy recovery, however, I know that the family appreciate all our prayers during this difficult time.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday and hopefully having a chat at the cross-country on Friday.

SEQTA Engage Parent Log-in
It is important that you please check your log in for SEQTA Engage as early as possible so that you will be able to access your child's report at the end of this term.
To do this you need to go to the following site:
https://holyrosarydblv.coneqt-p.cathednet.wa.edu.au/
or follow the link from our school website to “SEQTA Engage - parents” and use your username and password credentials that you set up last year.
New Families and PP parents were sent an email link earlier this week inviting them to setup a username and password to SEQTA Engage.
If you have remembered your username but have forgotten your password, please click on the Forgot your password? link and an immediate email will be sent to you. The email will expire within one hour, so please action this immediately.
If you forgotten both of these, then please contact the school and we can remind you of your username or re-send a link.
PARKING
Unfortunately, I am having to write to you all again about the inconsiderate parking around our school. I know pick up and drop off times are difficult and very busy, however, a small minority of parents are still parking without any thought for our local residents.
Our neighbours tell us they are very unhappy about cars being parked in and across their driveways or on their lawns.
Please consider our local community and park safely and in appropriate areas. It may result in parents having to use the drive through more or parking a small distance away from school (Hale Hockey carpark) and walking to school to drop off or collect their children. It is important to our school that positive relations with our local community remain in place.
SCHOOL DISCO
Holy Rosary Cross Country Carnival 2020
Dear Parents,
The Year 3 to 6 students will be involved in the Holy Rosary Cross Country Carnival on Friday June 26. The carnival will take place at Jackadder Reserve in Doubleview and will commence at approximately 9am.
We are so excited that the easing of restrictions will allow us to run the carnival. With easing of restrictions we should be able to accommodate all spectators, however, we ask parents and spectators to adhere to the 1.5m social distancing rules where possible while at the event.
The approximate timetable for the day is in the table below. The times below will vary on the day with the flow of the carnival and should be used as a rough guide only.
If driving to the event please pay close attention to parking signs. Rangers have warned they will fine spectators on the day if they park in unauthorised spaces so please ensure you follow the rules to avoid such fines.

Small Business Shout Outs
Our Holy Rosary Community is home to many small businesses. And many of those businesses are struggling right now, so we’d like to support them where we can.
If you have a small business you would like to promote, please send through a picture with a short description of your business and/or a special offer toholyrosaryhelpers@gmail.com
We will then post a shout out on Facebook and in the weekly newsletter.
Every little bit helps at the moment, so if we can all remember our small business community when needing a product or a service I’m sure the support would be appreciated immensely.
Don’t forget we also have our small business directory that is available 24/7 via the website.
Let’s get behind our small business community!
Please keep supporting our school’s events and fundraisers!

HOLY ROSARY BUSINESS DIRECTORY
As a Parent Community we would love to see a culture of thinking Holy Rosary first! Please have a look through the directory to see what these businesses might be able to do for you. If you would like to be listed please contact Anita Carr at holyrosaryhelpers@gmail.com
LIBRARY NEWS
THE LIBRARY IS NOW OPEN AT LUNCHTIMES! What excitement! The library is now open Tuesday (year 1-2), Wednesday (year 3-4) and Thursday (year 5-6) at lunchtimes for reading, book borrowing, relaxing, chess and sometimes even a dance! As per library procedures, all hands are cleaned on entry and we have number limits. We are finalising details on how a chess comp can run so stay tuned and keep practising! A book has been returned on a Tuesday that does not belong to our library – if Ella Diaries “Time to Shine” belongs to you, please come to collect it.

UFO Craft Back in Action
We are back meeting in the Parish Community Centre on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 9.30 -11.30am. We have cleaning and reporting processes in place to keep us safe under the W A Government rules.
The next meeting is June 24.
Early May I was able to deliver 27 completed rugs and a variety of headwear and scarves to the St Vincent de Paul shop in Erindale Road. A Power Point of the rugs is available to anyone who sends me their email address.
Already another five rugs have been brought in and many are under way. If you have knitted squares we would be happy to receive them to complete some colourful Snuggly Rugglys with our present collection. Why not come along and join us for session?
