We have our upcoming ARSA Institute Professional Development Day. For this day of staff development, I am asking staff to contribute to the learning of the day, by participating in the Staff Led Professional Development (SLPD) sessions. Please see attached for more information:
- SLPD Overview
- SLPD Proposal Form
- ARSA Institute 2/19 Draft Rotation Schedule example
- ARSA SLPD PowerPoint Template (We will use the I do, We do, You do model for the adult PD sessions. If anyone is interested in the Paul Bambrick approach to leading PD please see pdf attachment- Live the Learning. This process has a more learner center focus.)
Learning from our peers is always enlightening and relevant to the needs of our campus. We have formatted PD in this manner in the past with tremendous positive outcomes reported by participants. Effective, creative, and practices are occurring on campus. This is an opportunity for you to share what you do and what supports success in your classroom or area of responsibility at ARSA that can enhance others practices. It is open to all staff members.
PD Proposals are due to Mrs. Zapata by Friday, Feb. 9th. Submit title ARSA STLP_(staff name). Thank you in advance and look forward to everyone’s submissions.
Do not send them to Ms. Taylor.

SEL Article of the Week: Mindfulness
Key Points:
- There are a variety of opportunities to practice mindfulness, even (and particularly) at times when you feel your time is “being wasted.”
Takeaways:
- Spending just a few extra moments dedicated to mindfulness and remaining in the present can make a massive impact on your levels of stress as a teacher
- Don’t forget to tune into your body and your personal needs! Eat lunch and use the restroom when you need to!

Spotlight- Ms. Scally
Mrs. Gill writes:
Lead: Ms. Scally
Ms. Scally always goes above and beyond to create unique experiences for our students. Even though she has been sick this week, she still worked hard to set up a book tasting with the students, an activity where they get to sample different book genres. She made every effort to make it as creative and engaging as possible. Many of my students left saying how they want to check out those books soon!
Spotlight on Ms. Standlee & Mr. Neault
I would like to spotlight Ms. Standlee and Mr. Neault for auditioning over 100 incoming 6th graders. Ms. Standlee was so organized and communicated so well with our feeder elementary schools. Mr. Neault took up the baton when Ms. Standlee fell ill. Great team work
Spotlight on Ms. Gill, Ms. Salazar, Ms. Williams Sanders, and Ms. Clark
I would like to spotlight Ms. Gill, Ms. Salazar, Ms. Williams-Sanders, and Ms. Clark for bringing their classes in for book tasting. Students were able to fill out their menu for what books they might want to read as an “appetizer”, “main course”, and “dessert”. This will happen again in March for other reading teachers who wish to sign up. The students enjoyed the event overall.
Spotlight on Ms. French, Ms. Ballard, Ms. Horne, Ms. K. Williams, Mrs. Quintana, and Mr. Briones
I would like to spot light Ms. French, Ms. Ballard, Ms. Horne, Ms. Kayla Williams, Ms. Quintana, Mr. Briones for giving up part or all of one or more of their planning periods to help at the book fair last week. It is truly appreciated.
Spotlight on Social Studies Department
I would like to Spotlight all the social studies teachers and thank them for bringing their classes to the book fair last week.
Ms. Barksdale, Ms. Craig, Ms. Macon, Mr. Stegall, Mr. Pharms, Mr. Davis, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Getz, and Mr. Gardner
Spotlight on Ms. Williams
I wanted to spotlight Ms. Williams. Ms. Williams is always on the move with the aim of improving student achievement and culture on campus. She is always working on putting something great together for students or lending a helping hand to whatever teacher needs it.
She always has a positive attitude and has built great relationships with students. I especially want to thank Ms. Williams for going out of her way to help set up for the 8th grade brunch last week. She was on her way out of the building on a Friday afternoon when she saw a need and offered her help. When I said "It's okay... the set up shouldn't take long," she responded with: "It will take even less time with another pair of hands."
Thank you Ms. Williams for always going out of your way to help others. You are so appreciated.
